It is not normal to send your funds directly to the landlord without having a lease in place already when you are working with a Realtor. In the normal rental transaction the Realtor prepares the paperwork and collects the deposit and holds it in escrow until the lease is accepted, signed and then the keys are simultaneously provided when the balance of the funds are paid.
Was this your Realtor or the Landlord's Realtor? If this is the Landlord's Realtor, you need to file a complaint with the broker AND with the state licensing board. The entire transaction does not sound right at all. Get an attorney to help you.
