Purchased a 2002 "certified pre-owned Jetta, 48000 miles that was supposed to go thru 112 point inspection prior to going on lot as "Certified" used car.

Day of test drive & day before paperwork, I asked them to fix brake lights, do front end alignment and I'd be back next day to buy. Also needed tool kit parts & remote control key.

Went back, signed paperwork, and was told that the car'd be finished in the shop very soon. Waited and later was told the brake lights weren't working and we'd have to p/u the car next day. Picked up next afternoon, drove 26 miles and the it overheated on the freeway while my wife and daughter were in the car. In shop 3 days, replaced water pump.

One week later, squeak develops in front end, go back to shop & leave car 1 day; say they lubricated swing arm bushings (no grease points). Squeak gone 1 week then comes back, go to different dealer who replaces linkage rods that HATFIELD should have replaced and welds broken exhaust bracket. Sunroof seal is deformed at front edge. Automatic TRANSMISSION has started slipping now. New car smell spray wore off and car smells musty or urine-like.

I purchased the car based on the fact that it had supposedly been thru a 112 point certification inspection. I have identified nearly 20 neglected items.

My wife and I don't feel comfortable or safe in this car knowing it has been misrepresented as "certified."

HATFIELD VW told my wife that "It's only a car."

HATFIELD VW will not void the deal, as I have asked since the second day we owned it. HATFIELD VW offers only to trade us into another car from one of their lots and I will have to eat the sales tax on both cars, as well as settle for a lesser car, due to the fact I got a good price on the first one.

Had this vehicle been properly checked out, it probably could not have been offered as a "certified" VW, and I would not have even considered the car.

Hey Todd "Certified" is word that is USED to replace the word USED. Many car dealers can't say USED in their advertisements because you will think less of the car they are trying to sell that is USED. They use the word "Certified" to try to boost the value of a USED car. I know of a car maker that likes to use the words "Pre owned" in place of the word USED. To me "Pre owned" should mean that it is new. As in PRE--owned. Pre means before. as in NEVER TITLED. Many car dealers love to play games with your thinking just so they can pump more money out of you. You all can thank your local TV stations, newspapers and your local Talk radio stations for NOT EXPOSING car dealer scams. I at this time would like you all to do me a big favor. This will prove my point about "Media MUTTS" that refuse to expose car dealer Rip Off's I ask that all who read this please email the following people at 550 KFYI and ask them why is it that they refuse to talk LIVE on their radio station about car dealer Rip Off's. Ask them all why is it they will not do a show ONLY for people who feel that a car dealer has Ripped them OFF. After they respond to your email, please post all of their emails on this Rip Off Report. Car buyers nationwide need to be informed consumers not un-informed. Email the following people at KFYI and ask them to do a LIVE show where only people who feel Ripped Off when buying a car to call in. [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Email the above talk show hosts and ask why is it that they refuse to help expose scams in the auto industry. I have NEVER met a MEDIA MUTT that has balls except Howard Stern. If you do listen to KFYI call them up at 602-260-5394 and ask them why they never expose car dealers and their Rip Off's. I bet they just might hang up on you. Put all of them to the test and let's all find out. HATFIELD RIPOFF EXPOSED ON TV

Looks like one of the local TV news stations has taken an interest in our plight. If Hatfield doesn't make it right, then at least they'll have been exposed to the public.
