For Christmas I bought my sister a digital camera, SD card and HP printer at Staples. All three had rebates. All rebates were mailed Dec. 30, 2005.

Got the Staples rebate, got the SD card rebate, got a form letter from HP-- $50 rebate declined.

I called HP. I was told that I mailed in the wrong UPC code. There were 3, all identical. I was told to mail in the correct UPC and wait 1.5 months. I mailed in the other two UPCs and the letter came back to me. Seems the Young America, Mn. center no longer existed.

I called again. I was told that they would make notes to my account and to mail the rebate form to HP Resubmit in Arizona and wait another 1.5 months.

That was in April. Think I got my HP rebate? Well, did you get yours?

I didn't think so.

Do you think I'll ever buy another HP product?

I didn't think so.

The ink has their highest profit margin. There are choices other than giving more money to HP. I'm looking into third party cartridges and/or refills.

Buying an ink jet is a ripoff that deserves its own report!

If you were to fill a standard 4-door sedan's gas tank with inkjet ink, it would take over a quarter of a MILLION DOLLARS to fill your tank. Not kidding. Do the math. Here's what you do. Go buy yourself a LASER printer. The price you're paying for ink in 4 months will easily pay for one. The average ink cartridge will print about 300 pages. Black, at a standard 5% of page coverage. At $33-45.00 each. A laser printer toner will print 2000 pages (even the low end ones) for about $99.00, again at that 5% coverage model. Recap: Inkjet = 9 to 11 cents per page Laser = 2-3 cents per page Color inket = at least .35 cents per page Color laser = @.10 per page You'll get 6x the bang for your buck with laser. They are a little more expensive upfront, (you can get one for about $100.) but they are reliable, last forever and are cheaper to run. I picked one up at my local electronics store for $99.99, and I'll never EVER buy an inkjet again. And HP is, surprise, the most expensive when it comes to color lasers and ink cartridges. I'd go with someone else.
