Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
As a former HHGregg employee I feel it necessary to inform the public of the business practices of HHGregg. This will not only help you when you truly are in the market to purchase appliances and electronics but also give you the upper-hand when dealing with service as well.

First off if you don't already know all of HHGregg's salespeople are on commision, now keep in mind this isn't a bad thing, they do know quite a bit about their products. Just make sure to ask the person who long the person has been working there, if they say anytime less than 6 months you might want to go find another sales person.

Anything that is in the weekly ad that has an unbelieveably low price to it is priced that way for a reason, it's to get you in the door, but alot of times they advertise very nice products at a really low price, so low that it is below what they paid for it, again in the hopes that you will come in and buy something else.

This is where we have issue #1. All sales associates are trained on a daily basis NOT to sell these items and in many cases are written up or even fired for doing it. So how you combat this? Simple, let your sales person go on about how this product isn't right for you, now keep in mind that there are some instances where yes it really isn't so do pay attention to what they are saying, but if you honestly do feel like this is the right product for you then stick to it. Don't let them talk you into another product no matter what, stand your ground.

More than likely they will say "ok let me go check stock, I'll be right back", follow them with your eyes and see if they walk towards a computer or a phone. If it's to a computer then they are checking stock, now if they then go to a phone you know there are none in stock and they will try something to make you change your mind on the product. Again stand your ground, tell them "fine, if you don't have it in stock then I want the next better one for this price".

This is their promise, if they don't have a sale item in stock then they give you the next better model for the same price. Usually the next better model is the next item to either side of what you are looking at. Now watch them sweat!!!!

Now they will go get a manager. You will get some guy who is all sweet talking and smooth with his or her words, but again stand your ground and tell them this is what I want and if you don't have it I want the next better model for the same price. Either one of two things will happen, either you get it for that price or they will in so many words tell you to leave. At that point feel free to make a scene, you might get even better a deal.

When it comes to their warrenties, believe it or not I am telling you you need to get them, this is again a way you can really mess them up. If you are getting one of these products keep in mind that it's not a piece of garbage, but some makes and models are just built better and are more durable. By law they have to take 50% of that amount and set it aside for parts and labor.

Believe me they don't make any money off of these, there hopes again are that yes 2 or 3 years down the line you unit will break and no they they can't fix it so they will swap it out. Here is how they get you. They will say ok you have a credit of X amount of dollars.

When you come in they will show you a model that just maybe is a little bit better than the one you have but it will be more than what you have a credit of. And again they are going to pitch the maintence, here's the thing, depending on how long your maintence agreement is it carries over to the next product, so if you have a 5 yr plan and it's only been a year, tell them no and say that this is suppose to carry over, don't let them tell you it doesn't.

Only the little 2yr replacement plans are exceptions to this rule but there only $10-$25 so it's not a bug deal. Now if it's a 5yr plan and this is year 4, yeah get the plan you got your money's worth out of it.

Delivery is another thing you will run into. I will say that honestly they don't make a single dime on this part but it's great cause they do all the back breaking work for you. They will fill out a form at the time of purchase explaining the delivery process and have you sign it saying you understand it. Have them make you a copy of it!!!

Many of the drivers will come in and set the item where it needs to go but won't hook it up, they'll say we don't hook it up or you have to get a tech out here. That's bull, the sheet tells you everything just show it to them and tell them that this is what I paid for and that they need to do it, if they refuse make them wait there and call the store immediatly and ask for the Operations manager.

At this point you will either make them do it or make a fool out of them and HHGregg either way you can complain about it and you will get you delivery fee refunded. If they don't call you with either your 3 hour window or 40 minute call ahead call and complin about that too, too many times these guys get away with stuff and say that you were not there and to top it off they don't even leave any kind of sheet or note on the door.

Make sure that before they leave that the unit actually works, watch them, if you tv doesn't come on, if you washer doesn't fill with water, your fridge make any noise when it's plugged in, etc. etc. etc., don't let them leave!!! Tell them it's not working and make them call the Delivery center (DC) immediatly, don't let them tell you ok we will let someone know about it, watch them make the call let them even use your phone if you have to but make sure they do it, otherwise you will be forgotten about.

They don't get paid unless you sign that form or they return with the product still boxed up. Don't let them say oh we will send out a tech to look at it. If it doesn't work they can send it back to the vendor and either get it fixed and re sell it or get a new one from the vendor.

I can't complin too much about the service department, they are about the only ones that still know what the heck they are doing. Keep in mind that if they do have to order parts it can take 10-14 days to get them. Insist on a loaner, they say they won't but if you press hard enough they will.

The moral of this whole thing is don't let HHgregg push you around. You are the customer and you deserve what you paid for. And the moral to HHGregg Management (and I know you guys are reading this, don't think I don't know that Mike and Larry) don't mess with your employees, they are the corner stone of this company.

They bring in all the money and you guys just sit back and get fat off of it. So show a little more humillity and respect when you walk in the stores, and for crying out lound take a couple of minutes to walk up and shake their hands and say hi. Remeber, you were one of us at one time too!
