ALERT! Hobby Lobby Framing Centers have begun to add Museum glass to your custom framing orders WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE.  Museum glass IS THE HIGHEST PRICED glass available and you are being charged for it. Ask about what glass they are adding to your custom order and protect your wallet! You now need to specifically ask for regular glass and watch how much the price goes down.

The custom Framing department in Hobby Lobby stores in northern Illinois is running a scam. They are adding Museum Glass (the most expensive glass) and adding it to custom framing orders without informing "YOU" the customer! They feel that they can sneak this higher priced glass in without you noticing charging you 30-40% more than if you had used normal glass.

This is not the fault of the employees, they receive no commission and are not rewarded for higher sales, this is a request from upper management so they can make more money off you!

Protect yourself and ask your framer what type of glass they are adding to your order! If you have been a victim of this scam please inform Hobby Lobby's corporate offices and the BBB.

I can't say for sure what this particular shop is doing but I will say you have complete control over what you're spending.  I worked in the frame shop in Joplin, MO for 5 years and whenever you frame is ordered you get a pink copy identical to what you will end up paying. You also do not purchase anything up front. Therefore to prevent any extra charges keep your pink copy, and compare to the white copy on your item before having it taken to the front.  Keep in mind the price difference in the glass as well.  I will say that Hobby Lobby no longer offers regular glass so you can either choose from UV protectorate (clear or non-glare) or museum. Personally I only pushed for the museum if the piece was one that would benefit from the extremely clean presentation it gives, but I would have never switched a piece of glass out on a customer without their knowledge. It is also company policy that once a ticket is turned it no other changes can be added, only subtracted unless authorized by the customer. I am sorry for your experience, I no longer work for the company for other reasons but I always loved working in their frame shop and strive for integrity in all that I did.
