I was wrongfully terminated from an AARON'S sales & Lease because I wouldn't date the district manager, so he arranged for my removal. Abruptly. Overworked, way underpaid trying to get back on my feet with my family of 5, I was now unemployed and facing foreclosure. Vulnerable to any paying job I could find, and after answering hundred of ads and applications for employment, I was called from The Home Depot in Atlanta, GA. I'm not from GA. I live in the New England Area where the cost of living is triple and so is the level of corruption. A telephone screening tlace place with the tone that I "might" be good enough.
I was then called from a Branch Regional Manager (salesman) then a District Manager for an in person interview. He was so hyper, I'm sure he's on meds of some kind. He sold me on a sales job that would easily pay me $70,000 the first year and certainly over $100,000 annually after that. Just talk to the other guys he said. They'll all tell you. I asked about the turnover rate, he said he hasn't had any except for the guy I was replacing who he claimed had been out for 3 months and could no longer hold his job. Desperate, broke and hungry, I started immediately after they claimed to do a drug screen and background check. $300/wk for 6 weeks theN commission only.
Training in Atlanta GA for 4 days, then fly me back home to a full calendar of appointments. I have sold as much as 5 installation projects in a week and worked 80 hours, 7 days a week because they are constantly pushing to sell more, and at the end of the week, nothing, zero, nada, zilch. More broke now than I was before I took the job. All my gas, time, expenses, evening appointments 30 miles away, running out of gas, no reimbursement, nobody helping me to fund the sales efforts of The Home Depot. Certainly illegal but goes on everyday due to the very passive people of today.
I am about to lose my home will have no way to provide for my family, no money for gas, food, electrioil heating oil, insurance for home or auto, meanwhile, they tell you it is somehow my fault because I may have made an error on a product price or missed a detail on the mountain of paperwork somewhere.
This week I sold approximately $20,000 and received less than $10.00 for a paycheck. I have worked commission only elsewhere, but never experienced deductions that had to be worked off and receive no money for weeks while I am working for the company using my own resources. They have claimed many times that they made errors and are sorry, even from a top dog who said, I sent an email to your SM, we will talk about it tomorrow then never helped or got back to me. I am now penniless and have applied to hundreds of jobs in the last 1 month period.
i still work there trying to make some money until I can start a paying job.
