Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I saw a add on craiglist advertising a free adoption for a macaw and replied. was then told the bird needed to be shipped from africa and emailed the person as follows

Me:HI my name is Christin. Myhusband and I have been looking to adopt a parrot for quite some time now and were very interested in your ad. We would love some more information and you could rest assured knowing they would have agreat home we are looking for a family member that would be similar to having a child. ( we are unable to have children at this point) Thank you for your time and consideration

Scammer:Hello

Sorry for the late reply.i still have my hyacinth available to any family that is ready to provide them with a very loving and caring home.any one that will treat them and spoil them with love and care.my lovely k**e and Nina are very playful and admires a lot being in the midst of kids and other pets.jumping from trees producing lovely melodious sounds are their favorite moments.they are trained under USDA and are all 3years old standards. I am giving them out for free adoption as soon as possible to a home that will shower them with love and care.

In fact i want you to get this birds into your loving home asap hope that is ok by you?they are all trained and come over with all papers including health guarantee of 1years.Well, I will like to ask you the following questions of which i will like you to get back to me with the answer in your reply.

- Will you be able to take care of my birds?

-Do you have trees around you?

-Have you once had birds before and which breed ?

-Do you have kids?

-Are you a breeder?

What makes me willing to give these birds up for adoption is that i work with a global,broad-based health care company devoted to discovering new medicines, new technologies and new ways to manage health and as a result of my job we are forced to travel always for our researches on our medical products.Presently i am in AFRICA(VICTORIA ISLAND CAMEROON) with my colleagues on a research program. Our duty here is tight up that i even regret bringing them here and moreover the climate here is so hash .thats why i thought i should give them out for adoption to any caring home that is ready to take great care of them and shower them with love and passion.hope to hear from you asap.

Me:Hello, thank you for responding.

First off to answer your questions:

We would most definatley be able to take care of your birds. I do not work untill 4 pm and by that time my husband would be home to take over. Im not as aware of their diet but am willing to learn. As far as love and affection go you would have nothing to worry about. You see my husband and I have been trying to have children for two years now and have been unsuccesfu. thus the reason for us getting a macaww. We will treat them as if they are our own children. I am assuming they come together? We would prefer one so that it would bond with us more than with its feathered freind so you will have to give us the details on that.

We have had birds before. My husband and I had Parakeets for 3 years and unfortunatley passed away while they were being babysat. But I always helped my grandma raise her birds she had her own aviary going on and would have baby pigeons, sparrows, cannaries, ravens, and even doves. So I do have some experience.

We do have trees around us but they are palm trees. I would like to keep the parrots inside as much as possible (besides going to the park or to petsmart and stuff) Should we get some trees planted in our garden?

No we do not have kids. We would be bringing k**e and/or nina into our home as our childrn however.

And no I am not a breeder. I would hope that is not a requirement because i am a little against that. Sorry. Anyway Please le me know what you think and keep me updated on k**e and nina! Thank you for your consideration and time! :)

Scammer:hello dear thanks for your response regarding my birds.i am soso happy to know your family is ready to provide my birds rehabilitation.knowing you always assist your grand mum taking care of he birds proves already that you have at least you have a good knowledge on how to treat birds and cater for them.i believe you will very much love Nina for she is so lovely and fast learning.i believe as soon as you will be ready to provide her shipping fee i will take her to the airport to take the next available flight which will be 7 to 8 hours of flight for her to reach her new home.so please i will be very happy reading back from you.

the shipping fee is $200 and as soon as the money is sent i will take off strait to the airport to book her the next available flight so you can get her as soon as possible.though i will need your full names, nearest airport to your home, phone number and home address.for i will use this informations to book her flight with and you will just need to present your identification papers at the airport to pick her up.hope to hear from you asap.

Me:That sounds great! I can have the money for you August 1, 2008 This Friday. But what do I have to assure myself that this is not a scam. Please dont take this offensivly but, my mother once had a yorkie shipped from Africa and she paid a 400.00 dollar shipping fee and sadley never recieved her baby. :( It was a horrible disapointment. And I would hate to relive that. Please forgive me if I am being offensive to you, I just dont want to get taken advantage of. My husband and I finally got pregnant last year and miscarried after 3 mis diagnosis. we were heart broken and in a lawsuite for avery long time because the doctor made me unable to concieve. Needless to say we won the lawsuit but are now hopelessley looking for someone ( Nina) to hold a special place in our family. I would love to care and love for them but I need assurance that this is real. Please understand. Thank you for your prompt response.

Scammer: sorry for the late reply.I understand how you feel about the transaction, I expected you to feel that way but there is one thing you must know, always have faith in what ever you are doing, there is now way I can force you to trust me, you just have to do what your heart tells you to do, if you want your bird then go for it without a second thought.

I am a mother of two children, boy and girl and a responsible one for that matter. I would never want to have anything to do with such issues, all i want for my bird is a good home and nothing more, how then am I going to fail some one.please i will wish to let you know i understand you situation and it will be satirical and very painful if one can hurt one like you ok.but please i will wish to let you know we should always put everything in the hands of God for HE has the final saying in our lives we should never give up for there are situations in the bible like that of Sarah the wife of Abraham who gave birth at her old age so why not believe such a miracle can happen to you? please i will really like to know if you are a Christian and if you trust and believe in God.for HIM alone can do miracles and i believe you can receive one of HIS miracles.so just have to trust ok.

More to that I am a God fearing person and I know what should be done.

I give you my word on this, as soon as I have your money I am going to ship your birds and I mean it.So have no worries and just do what you want to do with a free mind.

In life you must move towards your greatest fears to get what you want.

So, I hope you know this is no joke and you are going to get your birds. I just need you to have faith in me for once and see the difference, it is certain that the world is a wicked place but there are people with a difference and i am very sure I am one of them.

If you want this birds, dry your fears and let's move on.

Pay for your birds and see what happens next, they would be there. The payment can be done either through western union or money Gram transfer, when I have your information which is the most important, I am going to send you the payment information.please hope to hear from you asap.

So far I have not responded again I read a article here that seemed very simaler AND THREW UP A RED FLAG TO ME. Im prety sure this is a reaccuring scam and I am disapointed. Please let me know if you have more information about this case! Thank you

Hello, First of all, thank you very much for filing your report. I found the same ad for hyacinth macaws, only this one was aimed toward Atlanta residents. I'm not very experienced with parrots, but I know that hyacinth macaws go for about $10,000 for an individual. Reading that someone was offering two for free seemed almost too good to be true. I guess it was. After sending an e-mail to for more information, I received this reply: "hello, sorry for my late reply.the pair of hyacinth macaw parrots are still available. My birds are so playful and are trained under USDA. little did i know that i had to obtain a stamp from hyacinth macaw registrar before traveling internationally with the birds.we have thus been held hostage at the Douala International Airport in our attempt to spend our holiday with my husband in Cameroon by the custom officials because of the lack of the stamp from the from the department of wild life and live stock since the Cameroonian government has implemented a new law(CITES Appendix 1) to band the importation and exportation of animals in to the country.I have been told that the birds cant enter Cameroon unless i present the stamp from the wild life department here in the US.It thus mean that if i have to do all this,i will have to go back to US and that will mean a lot of money.i have been given 2 options either to repatriate the birds back to the USA,OR they will be auctioned.it sounds so disturbing hearing that our much cherished birds awaits auction.i have thus advertised them so that anybody who will be able to pay the repatriation cost should pay and own the birds.if you are ready for that,i will thus need to know your detailed address, phone number and the nearest international airport to you.bellow are some attached pictures of my beautiful k**e and nina" Something about this e-mail just didn't look right (probably because most of the "i's" weren't capitalized, haha) so I tried to find the ad again. I finally did find the ad...but on a Kentucky website. So I typed in a line from the ad into a google search, "these are the loveliest birds I've ever set my eyes", and got 144,000 hits. One website was from South Korea. So, by typing in the e-mail address into a google search, I found this fraud report. I haven't replied to the e-mail yet. Should I keep this going? Should I pretend I'm still interested? I'm not sure if there is anything I could do to help. Thank you again for your post.
