After reading the other consumer comments relating to House of Brides I felt compelled to tell my story. There is no ending right now for I am in limbo with the store in Glen Ellyn. I bought my dream wedding dress from this shop back in April/2008. I paid in full - including alterations and cleaning. I was told not to worry, the store would hold onto my dress until their recommended time for alterations came about - end of August. A week ago I made and appointment for my alterations that were supposed to be today. The seamstress asked where my dress was - I told her the store still had it. Well, after waiting patiently for 30 minutes for today's appointment I knew something was wrong. They said my dress wasn't there. They said it must have gone out for cleaning because it wasn't in the store. So I asked them, is it standard practice to clean the dress before alterations? No, of course not. So why pray tell would you think its at the cleaners?? "Its not here so it must be there." So then they say, "go look on the rack for a backup just in case." Are you serious??!! This is my dream dress and not to mention it was a difficult one to find because I have a small waist and big bust! So I told them (calmly) I wasn't leaving the store until they confirmed that the cleaners have the dress. I need to add here that when I arrived for my appointment there were cops at the store to remove a disgrunteld customer. I guess I should have taken that as a sign. So the woman told me that the cleaner wasn't open today. Seriously? What cleaner is closed on Saturday? Especially one that does wedding gowns. Don't take me for a fool. Like I said in the beginning this story doesn't have an ending yet. But if I were a betting woman, I'd say my dress is gone and so the phone call on Tuesday will go. I only pray that they will reimburse me on the spot. There was nothing else in that store that was even half the dress I had bought.
