Household Finance ripoff Lake Forest, California California
I was laid off in 1998 and encountered some financial problems. I received a mailer from HFC stating that I could take out a mortgage loan and have the money quickly. I owned my own home and decided that this would give me some financial relief.
I called and went to the Lake Forest office to sign the papers. There was a 3 day right of recission beginning midnight that night where I (and any other borrower) could change my mind. I took the papers home and read them. The interest rate was over 18%.
The next morning, i rescinded the loan by phone and fax. I never got the money yet they recorded a lien against my property and reported the debt to all three bureaus. I have disputed the item with all three bureaus. I have called, written and even retained an attorney because HFC is reporting not only the debt of $8171 balance but a monthly pmt of $7600 and they are reporting it delinquent. I NEVER GOT THE MONEY! This item has destroyed my FICO score which will no doubt affect my ability to purchase an automobile in September.

I am a former employee of HFC and I am sorry this has happened to you. My suggestion is that you contact your states attorney general. HFC had just lost a $450 million dollar lawsuit for doing things just like this. They did not have to file the lien first, they just did not want to pay GAP insurance in case you would have took the loan and it was not filed. GAP costs money, and HFC will do anything to save a dime. Hopefully their practices will change since they were bought out for being in such financial strain. Lets hope for everyons sake that HFC will soon be gone! Check out ACORN.ORG. Im sure you will see some neat stuff there.
