I purchased Hughes Satallite from Directway Satallite in 2006. I was promised download speeds of up to 700, but I only got 350 at most. When I called to cancel it, they said there was a $300 penalty for cancellation. But they offered me a new modem and a faster modem that would give download speeds of 1500, for an additional $200 and a much higher monthly fee.

We sent the $200, and got the new modem, and our new faster speeds were 500 to 650, but not the 1500 we were promised. We complained and after 3 hrs on the phone with them, they sent a repairman. He worked on it for an hour and checked it out and said he could not find any reason that it was so slow. His best speed was 700. He said everyone else got 1400 to 1500 with that new modem. So we said we would live with it. Our tests sppeds were 500 to 550.

Then three months later, it just quit working all together. We phoned India or Pakastan again, and they tried for an hour to get us to fix it by unpluging it and replugging it back, 5 or 6 times. NO lights, it just would not work any way. So he told us for $200 he would send a new modem. We had no way of knowing if we needed a new modem, and we had just bought a new modem from them a few months earlier. He said (in his terrible English) there was no waranty for our problem. He wanted $200 to fix it or a $300 penalty to cancel it and refused to send a repairmen. YOU HAVE TO BEG FOR A REPAIRMAN AND SPEND 3 OR 4 HOURS ON THE PHONE FIRST.

We canceled it and have to pay the $300 early cancellation penalty.
