I was with hughesnet satellite service for almost 6 years. At the time they were the only way I could get what they called high speed internet. It was no time I became highly disappointed with their crappy service it was no time that I hit the fap wall head on and that was after only watching a few videos on utube. I myself was not informed about this policy until I called customer service if I hadn't already paid for 125.00 for pole mount and 199.00 upfront equipment fee I would have cancel their service then. But I let them con me into upgrading to the service that at the time was about 80.00 a month and would still hit download threshold. They would slow speeds down so much that even dial up would put it to shame. Then when my 2 year commitment was almost up they sent me another so called upgraded crappy modem. I tried to cancel their service then but unknowingly because I activated new modem I was committed to another 2 years or pay a high early termination fee.
About a year and a half later the transmitter went out and it cost me 70.00 plus service call to fix it,it wasn't 6 months later because the idiot repairman they sent to repair it didn't crimp the connector good enough that goes to the dish that it pulled out and blew that transmitter. They said that because the coax cable was loose it caused the transmitter to go bad and since the cable was pulled out of the connector they would not warranty it like I was the one that pulled it out.I didn't even touch the thing but still I had to pay again for the repair.
About two years ago I had to get a land line phone installed for medical reason and found out that I now had dsl service available even though I live way outside of town my 2 years with hughesnet was up by over a year and I went ahead and signed up for dsl and let me tell you it's got hughesnet beat all to hell, no more download caps no more slow speeds no more lag time no more having to deal with none English speaking C.S.R.s and no more crappy service from hughesnet.Hughesnet is not worth the money they want for their service. If you can find any alternative service other than hughesnet I say use it, also remember you will be committing yourself to a 2 year contract and all the headaches of sub par service that comes with it.I say stay as far away from hughesnet as you can get they are masters of deception.

Its a shame how ppl have a bad experience and try to drag down a whole company. I have installed both and just recently did several hughesnet/gen 4 systems and let me tell you it is fast. I have seen with my own eyes 11.84 mbps download speed and they are only paying for up to 10 mbps. I have yet to see less than 3.5 mbps on the new system and that is 3 x faster than my dsl and I have commercial grade dsl. in fact i am switching from dsl to hughesnet myself...no questions asked. plz ppl dont listen to these ppl who have a little issue and make a war crime out of it

I completely agree that HughesNet is terrible. I have read too many report other places and here indicating it. However, you state: "Downloading files is really 4 times faster than dsl or cable with Exede." Really, it is faster than cable? My cable regularly gives me up to about 30Mbps and some cable companies are offering up to 100+ Mbps. Most DSL service is limited to about 6-8 Mbps, so it is easily true with DSL.
I think Exede is possibly a good option for those with no other choice, but to say faster than cable is an over generalization that is for the most part wrong. Some people may still be paying for cheaper, slower cable plans, but a great deal of people are on plans that are faster than the minimum available. Furthermore, cable has the capacity for around 100Mbps speeds using DOCSIS 3.0 over their upgraded HFC networks. It is great if you like the service, but saying it is faster than cable is misleading.
