I purchased a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GTV6 in August of 2003. I live in Michigan and the winters get mighty cold. Around late October I started experiencing stalling. It would only happen when the car was cold. I would start it and then it would just stall (without shifting or anything). I took it to the dealer they replaced the spark plug wires but it kept happening. I went a total of 4 times (3 different dealers) and no one could figure it out.

I sent a letter to Hyundai who responded immediately and wanted me to take it in again for them to look at with their national tech advisors. So I did. They then told me it was because I was putting 93 octane fuel into the car and that was causing the stall. However, they stated the stall happened because of an "irregular burn pattern."

The dealer concurred with me that there was something wrong with the computer's AI system but they couldn't replace it because of the cost without approval.

I then contacted an attorney (this was in January 2004). Lemon law in Michigan is after 4 repair attempts. He contacted Hyundai and got no response. It wasn't until mid May that we finally got a response. He contacted them at least once a week. The response was that I had to go through the BBB Auto Line program.

So I filed a complaint, but wouldn't you know it: the car has to has less than 24,000 miles on it. I have 26,000 (I drive a lot for work). So I'm waiting for the BBB to deny my claim and then proceed with my attorney.

I believe Hyundai to be a good company, they just don't want to cover what is under my warranty.

I would agree the gasoline you're purchasing is appears to have to much additives. I would suspect from experience you will lose you arbitration case as you do not have a valid lemon law complaint.
