I hired Ian Ashbury via a popular platform that provides advertisements for available freelance work. Ian approached me to develop a project I had openly advertised and received severly proposals for. Ian claims to be a "freelance web consultant" with 15 years experience. After discussing my requirements with Ian in detail and receiving a completion date of roughly one month, I was happy to employ him in order to develop my project.

I uploaded the initial deposit into the Escrow funds on 11th November 2013, Ian began setting up the enviroment in which my project would be developed on (apparently). Approximately 11 days into the development phase (22nd November), after little communication on his part, I requested to see what was available to inspect so far.

Ian uploaded his current progress to my online hosting account, he had successfully managed to create a single, non-function form (in Twitter Bootstrap) and theme it according to my specifications. Initially I was slightly underwhelmed as with 11 days already invested into the project, I was expecting a lot more to be completed. However Ian explained he had taken on additional work and time was limited.

Ian asked if he could invoice me for the partially completed work he had provided, whilst I was hesitant at first, I had no reason not to pay the invoice as I believed work would continue at a steady rate. The invoice was paid on 22nd November.

Fast-forward nearly three weeks later, absolutely NO work had being carried out on my project. Communication was non-existent and Ian had apparently forgotten all about his work commitments with me. When Ian WAS in-touch, it was to tell me he would have "something to show you tommorow". Predictably, nothing materialized.

Upon contacting him on numerous times to share my disappointment, Ian claimed he was "overwhelmed" by the extra work he had taken on and didn't have time to work on my project. I felt however was not my problem, Ian originally stated that he could have my project completed in a month, one month later all I had to show for it was a single, non-functional form. It wasn't my fault Ian had taken on extra work and now couldn't commit to my development priorities.

After much consideration, disappointment and lies later, I decided to cancel the project with Ian Ashbury. The limited work Ian had carried out was unusable in it's current state and rendered it useless to me, it didn't function at all. It was due to this reason that I kindly requested a refund only to be point blank refused. Ian feels providing clients with partially completed work, invoicing them for it, and then deciding he doesn't have enough time to complete it is acceptable - unfortunately I don't.

I am currently in the process of disputing the funds with my bank whilst an investigation takes place.

If you are looking to hire an incompetent freelance web consultant/developer (I use that term lightly), with a poor attitude and work ethic, look up Ian Ashbury of Cornwall, Exeter. Otherwise, avoid at all costs.

Absolutely disgraceful individual.

Invoicing me for his "time"

I also neglected to mention that after cancelling the project and requesting a refund, he threatened to invoice me further for the time spent chatting with him. Vile behavior from an apparent professional. Please be safe, avoid Ian Ashbury.
