My partner and I signed up for IDC (international discount club) on Nov 17th, 2009 after a very tempting sales pitch.  We put a $1000 deposit down towards a $3,462.90 10-year membership.  Our contract ensured that we had 10 days to browse their website to see what deals they offered, and if we were not satisfied within 10 days we would receive 100% of our money back within 15 days.

We were meant to receive an account number and password the next day.  Within 5 days, we still did not receive this information, despite us calling several times asking for it.  Within the 10 days we requested to cancel our membership and get our money back. It was incredibly difficult to get through and speak to a person, and we received a ridiculous run-around as Omer Waseem was never available to speak and we were constantly promised that he would call us back.  We followed up repeatedly via phone calls and emails, which FINALLY were answered.

They would not allow us to cancel over the phone, we needed to go to their office to sign the paperwork.  We did so and were told we'd receive our refund within 15 business days (though the contract said day, not business days).

15 Business days ended the week of Christmas, so I was lenient when the cheque did not arrive.  The following week was New Years, so again I was patient as I know many business' close during the holidays.  I began calling every other day in the New Year asking for the cheque.  I was told the manager was on holiday's in Europe and was coming back on Friday.  My cheque was to be signed on Monday and mailed that day so I should get it Tuesday or Wednesday.  I asked for email confirmation of that call, and never received it.

Nor did I receive the cheque.  I called on Wednesday and Gaurav Jindal promised that he was going to courier it on Thursday (ie he never mailed it in the first place) and I should receive it on Friday.  He gave me the wrong tracking information, so when it didn't arrive on Friday I had to call him again to follow up.  Of course he no longer had the tracking number as it was in his boss' car, who was not available.

The cheque eventually came, and we cashed it.  Today we heard from the bank that it bounced due to insufficient funds.  We are requesting that a certified cheque be made out to us IMMEDIATELY, and I will report back whether we receive this or not.

I am definitely interested in pursuing a class action suit against this company.  I whole heartedly believe this is a scam, and from these web posting that are now popping up I see that they have scammed many people.  This cannot go on.  We all have legally binding contracts from this company.

It is not worth being a member of IDC

When it comes to actually using the IDC membership, there is hardly any savings..

You can get last minute deal vacation very cheap.... 5 days in las vegas + flight from toronto... for 500 dollars by NOT using the IDC membership. In the end, i don't see how customers are gonna make up for the 3462 dollars of membership through the savings..

Even using the so called free trip to Las vegas, it is NOT free. Believe me.

also most of the retailers are in the US.  If you add shipping, there is hardly any savings at all + the hassle..

If you buy vacation from Selloffvacation site with or without IDC membership, it turns out to be almost the same. Those late minute deals are always there and IDC membership does not matter much after all.   I don't believe it is worth while to have IDC membership in Canada.

Still no refund...

We have still not received a refund.  Gaurav promised a certified cheque within a couple days, but as usual, didn't come through and made the excuse that funds needed to be transferred and the bank has holding periods.  He swore that we would have a certified cheque by Feb 10th, but after chasing him down, he confessed that they didn't have the money available to pay us.  They had to cash a cheque from the States and until the bank cleared that he was unable to make us another cheque.

He has now promised that we'll have a certified cheque on Feb 18th.   I'll update again after that, but I won't be holding my breath.
