I received my recent phone bill with a $12.95 ILD Teleservices Inc. charge indicated for Sep. 20, 2007. I never remember approving any contact message services charges directly with this company, online. Although during this same time period, I was arranging hotel reservations for a future trip and that hotel chain was providing a national "rewards program" that required a two night stay in their hotels for a future free night. Naturally, to secure the reservation I would have listed my mailing address, phone number, etc. and I believe that it was at this time that ILD Teleservices must have acquired my phone number, mailing address, etc..

As I have no need of a "Message System" I contacted ILD via the 800-433-4518 phone number on my phone bill and demanded that my account with them be cancelled. They insisted that I had to pay both this current Sep. 20th service charge and one that would come through for Oct. 20th services and that the total amount would be credited back to me.

I believe that I have been scammed by ILD who has successfully worked in conjunction with my phone and internet provider service company to take funds from my pocket for something I did not approve and for which I may or may not receive a refund. This type of thing needs to be prevented as it is companies like this that discourage people from doing business through the internet. It definitely will negatively impact my reliance on the internet in the future and also adversely effects my opinion of my phone and internet service company since they choose to recognize unsolicited Third Party Provider charges.

If you have these types of charges on your phone bill, you may consider filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, State Attorney General or your state Public Service Commission. Complaints to the FTC are documented and they will take action if enough complaints are received.
