This is a letter I wrote to their PO box

My name is David. I have a bogus charge on my phone bill that indicates a 2 minute call to 900 444-0221 which I did not make, The contact number provided on the phone bill was to a company called Integretel, INC which I assume is your third party billing services.

I called this company and they said that a dialer was downloaded from the internet, installed on one of my PC's and dialed the aforementioned phone number, then downloaded some form of sports statistics for a duration of 2 minutes. There was no dialer installed on any of my PCs that I know of and I certainly did not authorize any dialing of any form to any 900 number, I am very careful of this.

The means of taking care of this dispute is a little shadey also, it seems that I have to have some form of voucher sent to me. Your billing agency needed my address to get this done, yet you needed no personal information to put a bogus charge on my bill. The 40 bucks I believe is being taken care of. I will not end up paying for this charge. However I have a few questions.

If I wanted to talk to you what number can you be reached at? I asked integretel for a phone number and they could only give the address I've mailed this letter to. It seems a little convenient to not have a phone number provided by the company you do your billing through. I assume the neglect of the number was intentional.

This dialer that Integretel mentioned, I want to know file names or methods needed to rid myself of these. There has been no action taken thus far on my end to keep this from happening again because I do not know how, other than a 900 block from my phone company which I've already done. What website did I download this from? How in the world did it get installed on my PC if you were not using some form of spy ware tactics?

Are you required by any law to tell the customer that you are about the charge them 40 bucks for a 2-minute phone call? Are you following FTC guidelines? If you think about it seriously, who would ever do this on purpose? Do you market for these circumstances?

I would like to think that I'm misunderstanding this entire situation, It just seems that the difficulty of contacting you, spy ware tactics, $20.00 a minute phone calls, third party billing agencies, and whatever I'm missing are all geared towards getting money from people who do not intend to buy whatever your product or services are.

Hell send me a flyer come talk to me knock on my door, call me, I'll listen, then I'll tell' you weather I want to buy your product or not.

Dialers and spyware

These things are downloaded in the background from websites that your computer has been to. They will then dial out at odd hours and attempt to make a connection for which they charge you. They can also be used to control your computer to send spam without you ever knowing it (making you a Zombie) You should do two things: 1) Run a good spyware program at least weekly. In fact get a couple of them and run them both. You can get them free from places like download.com Adaware is a good program, and even Microsoft's free Defender program is fairly good. 2)These types of things, while not always, are most times on sex sites. Not saying thats what you did, but that is the place you will find most spyware and dialers being slammed to your pc. There are several really good programs out there that can keep your computer surfing much safer including programs like Anonomizer. They will block malicious sites or warn you before you proceed to them, and they will keep your IP address hidden (actually it shows a different IP Address than your own).
