I was unknowingly signed up for a service I do not want.  I had legitimately given my credit card for a 24 hour pass to do a few background checks for personal reasons.  I willingly gave my information, supposedly to a secure site, and utilized the site accordingly.

I looked at my online checking account today and saw a charge for $19.95 for an identity manager product.  I had no idea what this was, until I called the phone number listed on my bank account and found out that it was connected with Intelius, the company I used for the background checks.

It is New Year's Day, but I called the number anyway.  Of course no one was there, but they did a web site I could go on and cancel the service if I so desired.  Of course I immediately went onto the site and canceled this unauthorized product.  I wrote an email demanding a refund or I will take this farther.

I did not want a service like that and did not sign up for it, unless it was done in a sly way that leaves unsuspecting people, such as myself, signing up for this identity theft service with a monthly charge.

Had I not scrutinized my account, I might have easily skipped over it and thought it was just something I had ordered online for Christmas and the charges would continue until I realized something fishy was going on.

This company is a scam artist and they should be shut down and attorney generals or such should investigate.  I am outraged and had best see a refund or there will be trouble for Intelius.  I just hope my information did not get into another companies hands.  This must stop!  I wonder how many people are unknowingly just paying the monthly charge due to not really looking at who has debited their accounts or charged  their credit cards.  We need to band together to stop these scam artists!
