Intuit QuickBooks 'retires' or removes certain online features of the software and requires you to buy upgrades in order to get those features back. For instance, I can no longer email invoices and statements to my customers unless I pay $120 to $200 for an upgrade. There are other features that are being 'retired'.

Hello Letitia, I appreciate your response. I don't think it fits the situation here, though. This is not a case of not being able to use new software on an old system. It is a case of not being able to continue using certain features of software that I have already purchased and used for some time. Certainly any changes they've made to their system could have made accommodations for the old software. And I really don't see that email has changed that much over the years. It should be no problem at all for me to continue emailing my statements and invoices through their system. The best example I can give at this time is that it is the same as buying a car and three years later being told you cannot use the air conditioning or headlights anymore unless you have their newest electrical system upgrade installed. With the QuickBooks situation, I have to pay $120 to $200 just to continue using a feature I have used for several years. Please note there is another consumer at this site complaining about the same thing. If you still think this is a normal situation, please give me an example that is directly relevant to this situation. Thank you,

Nope, Leticia, that is the way QuickBooks is set up. When you get an upgrade, you must rush to get it as soon as it comes out because the clock is ticking every second. One must upgrade every two years or parts of QuickBooks just stop working (online banking is another example of what has a built-in stopwatch). Many people try to compare that to Microsoft but that is like comparing apples and oranges. I know many people who are still happily using Windows 98 for their email and web surfing. Granted, they are not getting enhancements only security updates, but the OS still works. Little bits and pieces of it are not breaking down and becoming nonfunctional as is the case with QuickBooks. It is deceptive on Intuit's part that they do not disclose this little detail plainly and in full view on the packaging. It really needs to say "The full functionality of this version will expire at twelve midnight on 12/31/20??. You may continue using this version but many features will not be available after the above date." Then list what becomes unavailable. It is always better to be up front with customers than to be sneaky.

but I think that maybe the features have been retired from your version because they have newer features that only work with the upgrade and will no longer work with what you have. With technology changing all of the time that sometimes happens with is why a game bought today will not work on Windows 95, or only with a certain video card or even in the case of the X-Box 360 only with certain TVs. They're newer so they need the newer programs (hardware, etc) to allow them to run.
