I used Intuit Website Service to purchase my domain name and took advantage of their 30 day free trial offer to try out their website service. After about 2 weeks I decided that it did not meet my needs and I called to cancel my service, and transfer my domain name to another web hosting site. I was told that the account would be closedand my domain name transfer would take effect in 30 days. The domain name was transfered after much trouble and withno help from them at all.

Today I recieved a call fromIntuit asking how I liked their service. I informed them the account was closed 4 months ago. They informed me that the account was never closed and I had been charged for the last 4 months @$19.99 per month by automatic bank draft. When I finally got hold of a service rep. she told me I had not closed the account and to do so I would have to have a pin # which I did not have since I closed my account with them 4 months ago! She said she could send it tome via e-mail and did so. When I asked for my refund (since I had never used their services) for my website past the 30 day free offer she said, "They could not give me a refund except for the last 30 day period."Intuit ripped me off for$60.00. Their service and support sucks.

I would suggest to any one considering using Homestead/Intuit Website Hosting reconsider and go with a reputable company like Go Daddy .com, you will be much happier.

I don't have any love for Intuit, but I don't agree. I can understand your frustration, but it doesn't mean you got ripped off.

To transfer a domain name after purchase from one company to another, the domain has to be 60 days old (by ICANN regulations), unlocked, and an authorization code sent to the owner. It's like transferring a lease.

I can tell what happened.

You got a domain from Intuit for "free" for 30 days (you were on a $19.99 Gold Package so it was included in the trial) and wanted to switch it to a cheaper company before you got charged.  However, since the 60 days hadn't passed, you had three options:

1. Pay for it and it alone ($14.99/year).
2. Pay for it along with the package ($19.99/month).
3. Wait a year for it to expire and repurchase with another company.

You went the second route, and let the account go for 60 days until it could be transferred. Then, after you had it with another company, you probably forgot you had your account open with Intuit. After looking at your finances 4 MONTHS LATER, you called Intuit back and wanted a refund because you "didn't use" the package.

Intuit got charged for that domain, whether you used it or not. They deserved compensation if you wanted it.  There's a half a page disclosing the terms of service before you can secure the domain that you obviously didn't read, otherwise you wouldn't have written this post.

You could've bought it by itself, but you didn't. They were there 7 days a week to help, but you didn't call until 4 months later, because you forgot or weren't watching your bank account.

I don't have any love for Intuit, but Intuit isn't at fault. It sounds like you need to read the fine print and watch your finances more closely.

Oh, and I GUARANTEE you, GoDaddy is no different. Type them into rip-off report and see what comes up. They use half-naked ladies to sell websites. Reputable, my behind....
