To clarify a big misconception amongst drivers that if you return a truck to a terminal, you have not abandoned the truck. In fact, you have. The term "abandonement" as most think of it is leaving the truck in the middle of nowhere. But if you leave a truck at a terminal and the company did not authorize you to leave it there, you have abandoned the truck. And it is always best to have the location in writing. If your fleet manager says leave it here, get it in writing via fax or email, to leave it where he/she told you. I have read many reports filed here about companies putting abandonments on drivers' DAC reports and the drivers feeling that it is wrong. We are suppose to be professionals in this industry and we must accept responsibilities when we make a mistake. Anger causes us to do stupid things and then when the consequence is upon us, we did nothing wrong. In other words, get pissy at the company all you want, but remember, you have their truck and it is their truck and if they want it at a certain place, that is where they want it and that is where you must bring it to avoid consequences.

My husband just turned his truck in at the local terminal (ohio - where we live)! On the day he called dispatch and informed him that he followed through with quitting, he was told he would get a bill for the recovery fee. What recovery fee? He drove from orienation to Indiana to get the stupid truck! Also, what about the escrow account - who keeps that money? JB Hunt I suppose! This company has been a rip off from day one (he didn't get back from orientation for 10 days - they had him driving from place to place looking for a truck that didn't have any problems), I so glad he left JB Hunt and believe me, he won't be quite about it!!

If you failed to return the trk to your home terminal, then they have the right to charge your for the recovery cost of getting trk back to your home terminal. they are required to return any monies left after that charge.
