I recieved a letter from this firm in April, stating I had written a bad check to Ames Dept Store on 12-24-99, I called the company right away, knowing I would have taken care of this if I had written a bad check, they argued with me that I had did this and I had 30 days to pay, the $120.11 & $20.00 charge, I have had a few bad checks in my past, going through a divorce, and things happen sometimes, but I just couldn't believe I would have ever let it go if it had happened, I work for the county clerks office in chemung county, and I was worried that they wou8ld start calling me etc, the bank was correct on my letter, but the store had closed 3 years ago, and I honestly wondered why it would wait so long to contact me. I stupidly paid them the amount, and now I see these, I feel so stupid, I only wish I had checked it out more, before I sent the money, I hope there were not many other people who did this and I hope they get busted for doing this to people.

I filed a class action in Superior Court in Fayetteville month before last and process has been served on JBC. They only have a few more days to go until I default them. I hope they don't default because I want to beat them in fair battle, but if they don't feel like defending and we win automatically, I suppose I can live with that too. There's more details about this case in one of my other posts here. Read all of my posts here that you can find. For now, send JBC a cease-communication and debt validation letter, and if you don't want to wait for the class notice, find a consumer lawyer near you to start an individual action. Don't worry, JBC will never sue you for this one, but do check your credit report and make sure they haven't stuck it on there.
