It doesn't surprise me to see such venom coming from Texas. I live in Los Angeles but have spent time in Texas and have several friends who live there. I've observed on many occasions a disconnect between Texas folks and Los Angeles folks. Both sides have merit.
In generalities, folks from Texas think the Left Coast are a bunch of crackpots who are sinners and hucksters. Folks from Los Angeles often lump Texans in the category of right wing bigoted hicks. Both are right, both are wrong.
I've known Mr. Petulla for a number of years and have found him to be a very nice guy who genuinely cares about people. He is also very passionate about his business for he truly believes he has the best offering for those looking to break into the film business.
Sometimes his passion is overpowering and I guess could come off as condescending and disrespecful in certain circumstances. Knowing Mr. Petulla, I know that's not his intent. We all have good days and bad days. Perhaps this was one of those bad days. It's also quite possible that Mr. Petulla did not understand the vast distances between places in Texas. So he might have mistakenly assumed that you were a lot closer to Dallas than you really are. That doesn't mean he didn't come across, at least in your interpretation, as you describe, but I would submit that it does seem somewhat out of character from the Mr. Petulla I know.
I'm sorry you felt put upon and that you were not in the mind frame to sign up with Film Connection. Hope you have found your own path to becoming a filmmaker.
