Complaint Review: John Casablancas Modeling & Career Center - Langhorne Pennsylvania

JC is a complete ripoff. I paid $100 less than what it cost to register and to receive my books/supplies, yet they let me take what they call a 'class' - which, according to the board of education AND the employees of JC (as well as the director of the Langhorne chain), is completely illegal. I offered to go home and forget about it, but they all insisted I take the 'class'. So, unfortunately, I did.

I realized it was something I was unable to do or afford, especially since they wanted me to do half-naked shows. When I called them to quit, they gave me an enormous hassle about it, saying I wasted their time. I wasted their time? I live three hours away. That's gas, time, PLUS tolls!

As I never received my books or supplies, I felt what I did in fact pay for my registration fee should have been put toward anything that I would have owed. The women that worked there failed to mention to me when I signed up that I would be liable for 25% of the entire course fee if I quit early, past the legitimate period of time to quit.

Not only did I pay all but $100 of the registration and supplies fee, but I also made one payment to their processing center - NEA - also known as a COLLECTION AGENCY! The people who work there are nice, except for the one woman - Lisa. She is completely arrogant. She calls as a bill collector before you're even late on a payment.

Tonight, she called me and demanded that I pay over $500 to that crock of an agency. I said absolutely not. She said there was no way that I could get around it, as she could garnish my wages. Little did she know that I was once a bill collector myself, and it is ILLEGAL in my state as well as others to garnish one's wages. She then advised me that I would receive a bad mark on my credit report, thus 'ruining' my credit, and rudely hung up on me.

Now, as I stated, I was a bill collector myself. Hanging up on a customer, even if it is a debtor, is NOT the professional thing to do. You can LOSE YOUR JOB for doing that.

So, I attempted to call her back. Three times. She hung up on me without saying a word each and every time. Way to be mature, lady. I therefore contacted the Better Business Bureau, and I noticed they are very popular with them - supposedly, they get complaints ALL THE TIME.

After filing a complaint with the BBB, I then called NEA back and spoke with a rather nice lady. She explained to me that I would be liable for 25% of the entire course fee, and as nicely as I could be, I told her JC could shove it. She said she would speak with a supervisor and see what the minimum I could pay would be.

I feel I shouldn't be liable for anything, as I never received my books or supplies, and I only attended one class, which I wasn't supposed to do by law, but the employees and the director there told me I should attend anyway.

However, if I don't pay anything, it will go against my credit report, and I have perfect credit. I don't want to ruin that.

JC is a complete crock, and all they do is take your money to exploit you for something you never signed up for. If they're looking for women to dance and walk around half naked, they need to contact playboy, or find some women with no morals, because that's not me.

But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public?
