I agree, but it continues because people just shake their heads and walk away. They are embarassed because they fell for it. If enough people complain; if enough people refuse to buy their product; if enough people file legal charges with their attorney general or local DA; then, this would stop. It continues to happen because we allow it to happen.

I have to disagree with that one. The "contest" you describe is decades old and is used quite regularly by car dealers around the country. It specifically targets a customer base that is gullible enough to believe they won a huge prize in a contest that they did not enter, and are also not skeptical enough to bother reading the fine print. This is the car salesman's dream customer.

Why would you think they're any different? The car sales industry pretty much uses the same tactics regardless of the brand.
