Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I checked my credit report and realized that some company called First Usa NA made a hard inquiry on the credit report that will remain there for the next two years. I could not believe it - the heading of the report said something to the effect that First Usa NA claimed that I voluntarily let them see my credit report and I have never heard of them before and did not even know what this company was about. So I called the credit bureau and the representative gave me their toll-free number.

When I called, the representative said "Chase Bank, how may I help you?" or something similar, and so I asked if this is First Usa Bank. The representative said yes, but that that Chase is now the parent company of First Usa. Anyway, I told the representative that there had been an authorized hard inquiry on my report, there must be some mistake and that I want it removed.

The representative then made an erroneous request. He claimed that in order for me to have the hard inquiry removed, I must voluntarily send my entire credit report to Chase Bank by mail. Imagine, Chase obtains my information without my authorization, and they are telling me that to remove any damages, I must voluntarily send them my information through their unsecured website.

I totally refused and Chase only kept sending in hard inquiries on my credit report repeatedly. I felt helpless because they were giving me the run around, telling me that there was no one whom I could speak to and that my only option was to handle my concern through their website. Then, when I did send my complaint to their website (without my credit information, ofcourse), they simply mailed me a letter with the same erroneous request to voluntairly send them my entire credit report before they would stop making hard inquiries.

And that is not all.

I was visiting with someone I knew who happened to work at JPMorgan. He wanted to show me his workplace and I agreed that I would go. While there, one of his employee friends tried to egg me on to open a free checking account. It felt uncomfortable, but not wanting to create a scene I agreed thinking that this won't hurt me anyway.

While opening the account, the representative saw a pop up and opened her eyes wide. She said, "Wow, you've been pre-approved for a credit card account. You're getting a credit card in the next five business days." So I asked the representative what did she mean getting a credit card in the next five business days, when I did not even sign any kind of agreement that I accepted the card. I asked her if a hard inquiry was made on my credit report.

The representative said "No." She said that Chase can open a credit card account without making a hard inquiry on the person's credit report. Nonplussed, I wondered how that could be possible. I had always wanted a second credit card, but avoided it because I did not want another hit on my credit report unless I was getting a good deal.

Later that night, I received a credit monitoring alert that I had a hard inquiry on my credit report. Needless to say, I was left thinking, "I knew it!". I pulled up the old file with the letter from First Usa bank, and realized that the letter heading actually read Chase and had a logo that corresponded with the logo for JPMorgan.

What a nightmare! I will never have dealings with this fraudulent company again - EVER!!

I called Chase customer service once more. The agent who responded understood my position and was completely appalled at what happened. They have finally rectified the information on my credit report. Whew!

Banks run a hard inquiry

Many banks will run a hard inquiry when you open a checking account. They probably ran the hard inquiry to open the checking account, not for the credit card. That's how they knew you were approved for the credit card too.
