this isnt a fraud issue its an incompatance one. that is the worst shop in albuquerque. i live just up the street. they hire people that know NOTHING about cars. i was once told at that pepboys that "we dont sell alternators" also my friend took his 65 baracuda in for an alighnment. we knew the settings before they took it and checked em when we got it back... they didnt change no alighnment done. but they did do us the favor of breaking in his new back tires (they were brand new when we took it in.. when we got it back they had obviously been burned out on. mostly you could tell because half of the tire tread wasnt on the tire at all but all balled up inside the wheel well) we got our money back but still.. im sorry you got stuck with that shop it sucks.

I WAS LOOKING ON THE INTERNET FOR THE PHONE # TO PEP BOYS. BUT RAN ACROSS THIS "RIP OFF" SITE INSTEAD. BOY I AM GLAD I DID! I HAVE TAKEN MY TRUCK TO PEP BOYS A NUMBER OF TIMES. BUT ALL IT TAKES IS JUST 1 INCIDENT TO LOSE A CUSTOMER. AND IN THIS CASE IT SEEMS THAT NO ONE TRIED TO MAKE AN EFFORT TO HANDLE THE SITUATION BEFORE THEY LOST A CUSTOMER. THAT IS JUST NOT A CHANCE I AM WILLING TO TAKE. THERE ARE TO MANY PLACES TO TAKE MY TRUCK TOO! I WAS HESITANT ABOUT WHERE TO TAKE IT, EITHER "PLANT FORD" HERE IN HOUSTON (WHICH I HAVE HAD EXCELLANT SERVICE, EVERYTIME!) OR TO PEP BOYS. THE FORD PLACE IS A TAD BIT HIGHER THAN I WAS WANTING TO PAY. BUT AFTER SEEING THIS "RIP OFF" SITE. I AM MORE THAN WILLING TO PAY IT NOW! THANKS FOR THE ADVICE.

There are only 3 ways a spark plug can end up
hanging by its wire. One, if it was never
screwed in, which we know is not true because that
would have been noticed immediately. Two, if it
was not tightened properly, (Pep Boys fault), and
slowely backed out until it fell out and.. Three,
if the threads were so stripped that couldn't be
tightened properly, only really happens in
aluminum heads, (very unlikely and still Pep Boys
fault for not reporting the stripped spark plug
hole to the customer).
On this issue Pep Boys should have fallen all over
themselves to appologize to the customer.
I know there are many great Pep Boys employees,
even a few at the store near me, but I certainly
agree that their mananagement sucks. The nicer
employees have appologized to me for the dishonest
things they have been told to do to me.
Unfortunately dishonesty seems to be their corp.
policy, make money any way you can.

I am or was going to pep boys for a tune up, but after hearing the insane aggresive comments by the manager, i will not. As there are many choices for a tune up or general service. In this day and age its all about customer service and to think he would blame a customer for treating his car bad or bying a lemon, i am outraged, this person (a*s) or manager should be looked up and fired immediately. Im not sure its fraud but its terrible service, especially when there are lives at risk, this should have been taken care of by that same pep boys location without question, and they should feel lucky that this person dosent sue the hell out of them. This is complete bullshit and i feel for these people.

I am an employee at a Pepboys location here in california and I can sympothize with the customer in this situation. In this situation your vehicle should have been repaired for you at no cost to you. In the line of work that we perform, we do see a large volume of customers each day and most of us do attempt to provide the best service to each of our customers as is possible. But regretfully, with large large numbers of vehicles each mechanic must look at each day Im sure that your problem was an honest mistake which left you in an awful position and I do appologize for the location that you took it to. I do not believe for one moment that it was an attempt to take advantage of you.
As far as the comment made that the mechanics and managers at Pepboys are paid commission on each sale is incorrect. Mechanics are paid yearly bonuses if their productivity percentages are high enough. Management is paid bonuses for earning profits highter than the previous years figures, not from each vehicle repaired. I do erge you to take your vehicle to a different Pepboys location if possible to remedy your situation, I am sure that they will do what is required to correct the causes of your complaint.

i am an a.s.e. master tech with pep boys for eleven years.
the customer's complaint sounds legit to me. this situation should have been resolved by the store manager swiftly and completely to the customers satisfaction. if that would have happened we may have lost the customers confidence but it would
have been temporary if handled correctly.
by the way, all techs and mechs work off commision and all store and service managers make a commision bonus off of parts and labor.
i would like to apologize to this customer for your response and say that some people who advertise themselves as "managers" have no clue what the term means.

This silly quote from a Pep Boys MANAGER?
"The loud noise and the engine running rough.
My friend, You blew a plug right out of the cylinder head. now that indicates and proves a total neglect to your engone. In other words, You dont take care of your car."
You're spot on, Byron. If that quote is indicative of the level of knowledge of the management staff, one comes to understand the uncommonly high number of complaints about Pep Boy's service.
Adolph
P.S.: Is an "engone" anything like an "engine"?

Listen to the hostility in the reply by the pep boys employee. Don't you think he knows the difference between a new plug and an old one? Its easy to tell, usually they are a different brand.
And why do you think the plug blowing out of the cylinder head is the owner's fault?? After driving many thousand trouble-free miles they take it in to pep-boys for a tune up. the plugs were supposedly replaced. Then a few days later a plug comes out of the head and somehow you blame them?
Just tell me how neglecting your car will cause the plug to unscrew from the head?? You were the last person to work on the car! plus ytou were the one who installed the plugs! I used to work for them. Someone buys unneeded parts to fix their problems and are called "stupid bastards" as they walk from the parts counter because you just sold them parts they didnt need. Please pass up pep boys, they are one of the worst places to take your car. I will have my car towed home and fix it myself before I have them touch it.
Also, note his closing that "those customers are no threat to us." That says it all right there. They don't care, and never will.

Im a manager at a pep boys and i have seen a few "foul-ups" and I, as well as most of the mgrs, have taken care of the customer in good time to their satisfaction. However , there are those who blame every little car problem on the mechanic who last touched it. This has got to be one of the most obsurd complaints i have heard so far.
The loud noise and the engine running rough.
My friend, You blew a plug right out of the cylinder head. now that indicates and proves a total neglect to your engone . In other words, You dont take care of your car. Unless You just bought a used lemon.
Why do You say that only some of the plugs were changed? Is this Your expert finding? Well Pep Boys Managers and staff do not have time for fraud. And the people at pep boys dont make commission.
We have some of the best techs in the world. Even in the cases where the customer thinks that we have done something wrong with their vehicle when we really hadn't, we tend to accept the customers ignorance and give a little back to the customer.
Now I know that we would never neglect to follow up on a complaint and we would always call You back to see what was wrong. Unless of course You had a disrespectful attitude towards us. We have the largest amount of loyal clientele and many happy customers who praise us daily.
The few who waste their time claiming that we ripped them off are absolutely no threat to us.
