There is not a single good thing to say about this place.

There numerous reviews on Yelp are overwhelmingly terrible.

The place is a dump.

The owner is a fat, poorly dressed, overweight clown who is rude, condescending and dishonest

After doing business with them I felt like I needed an industrial strength shower.

Following is the review I posted on Yelp

You can read reviews from other customers as well here:yelp.com/biz/just-service-chicago

WARNING: Do NOT do business with these guys

Took a stereo receiver there for repair and had one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. Bottom line: These guys ripped me off and were condescending and rude on top of it.

I dropped off my Denon receiver at 3:00 one afternoon in early October, 2013. This is a 20 year old analog unit that just conked out for some reason. (I had this happen once about 10 years ago and it cost me $50 to get it fixed.) Fat, slovenly dressed, rude guy (owner?) behind the counter says it will cost between $100-$140 to fix. I was in a bit of a bind, so although that price struck me as high, I went ahead and left it for them to fix.

2.5 hours later I get a phone message telling saying "This is Just Service, we fixed your unit, the price is $140 and we take cash". Why did I just know it would be $140? And wtf is with the "we take cash" angle? Who walks around with $140 in their pocket these days?

So I jumped online and read all these Yelp reviews and it's clear THEY HAVE A TERRIBLE REPUTATION. I also looked at used Denon receivers online and the going rate for units in perfect working order is $60-$80. My intention was to just never go back, let them keep this unit and just buy a new one online. So I ignored their calls, but finally one day answered one and spoke to the guy who said "If you don't come in and pick it up within 30 days it goes to collections and we will also charge you $10/day to store it here."

I don't need the hassle, still needed the receiver so I went in to pick it up. While there, the same slovenly dressed fat slob waited on me. I asked how long they worked on it, and he said "6 hours". Interesting, because I got a call from them saying it was ready 2.5 hours after I dropped it off. I said "you must have put some very expensive parts into this", and he went off on some insulting rant "How long have you lived in Chicago? Taxes are high here and this is a very desirable part of the city". The repair ticket mentioned something about "soldering"; nothing about new parts, and no old unworking parts were returned to me.

Bottom line, this is a job that should have cost me about $50-$60, I should have been able to pay with a debit card (like absolutely EVERY other business today) and shouldn't have been spoken to like I was a rented mule. I know he ripped me off; HE knows he ripped me off. I just wish I'd looked at these other reviews here before ever going to this dump. And yes, it is a fu**ing dump, on top of everything else.

I have contacted the NBC Chicago Investigations unit and will also file a Better Biz Bureau complaint. Meantime, if you take your biz there, big mistake.

More Disappointment From Just Service

 This isn't a rebuttal - it's an update.

After I filed my original report and also opened a Better Business Bureau case, I rec'd an email from the owner (Ray?) saying he'd agree to refund me $60 if I:

1) Officially closed the BBB complaing;

2)
Removed the original Rip Off Report I submitted; and

3)
Would sign a document saying things were resolved and I would not post any more complaints on any social media site.

So ...

Update 1: As a show of good faith and in advance of receiving any refund, I closed the BBB case.

Update 2: I attempted to close the original Rip Off case but Rip Off has a policy against removing reports. I explained this via email to Just Service, even offfered to write an email that would absolve them of any meaningful deceit and perhaps blame it on a clerical error.Since then I've been unable to get a hold of them and their web site appears to be off line, as is their Facebook page.

Update 3: So naturally I didn't sign their document, as in short they reneged on the agreement, just as I suspected they would, and I've re-opened the BBB case.

Overall I would strongly recommend against doing any business with these people. A few extra bucks at a customer's expense is much more important than their reputation. If you think min is an isolated incident, check out their reviews on Yelp. I've never seen anything likt it.
