Kal Tire, Marine Drive, North Vancouver Would not stand behind their work and charged quadruple the price of the competition. North Vancouver British Columbia
We brought our truck in for brake servicing. Charged by wife over $1300 for front brakes (claimed it needed new rotors). Was told at that time, rear brakes were over 30%.
Less then a year later, tried to bring the vehicle back as the front brakes were acting up. At first they told us to call them back in a couple of weeks because they were very busy. They wouldn't let us book an appointment. When we finally got it in, they told us we needed new rotors again as they could not be machined, and that it would not be covered under warranty. We contacted Kal Tire head office who intervened on our behalf and got them to fix our front brakes under warranty. However, they now informed us that the back brakes needed repair and that it would cost $1700 to repair. (This seemed suspicious seeing that a year ago, they were over 30% and two weeks prior, they didn't notice anything wrong with the back brakes).
After some discussion and reference to Small Claims Court, they agreed to fix the front brakes under warranty (I was surprised that the rotors could be machined instead of replaced again), and left the back brakes.
Once repaired, I took the vehicle to Taylormotive (BBB member with solid customer rating), who promptly repaired the back brakes for less then $400.
Lesson learned: beware of big name repair shops and not all locations adhere to the same code of ethics.
