I bought a used 1998 KIA Sportage in June 1994 from a used car dealership, which recently became a KIA dealership in the month of October. Approxamately two weeks ago, My wife is driving the vehicle when the power steering dies.

We bring it to the dealer ship on October 18, 2004 [KIA of Milford [CT] formerly Monterey Motors]and they diagnose the vehicle's problems. Apparently, the power steering lines are severely corroded, along with the transmission cooling lines, and thr radiator, and radiator hoses are all bad. Of course the extended warranty I spent $1,500.00 does not cover any of it. I am looking at a bill of apporxamately $1,100.00.

The dealership contacts me in a day or two and tells me that they cannot find the parts anywhere, that they are on a "National Backorder". They cannot get the parts until approxamately November 5.

I call the dealer on October 29, and the service department tells me that the parts department tells him that they got half the parts, and not the other half, not being very specific about it. So I am going on my 3rd week now without my vehicle. The Dealership does not offer a loaner car.

Also, there is an open recall on my car that I recently became aware of for the front seat belt. Since this dealership is new, I was told their computers were not on line yet, and that they cannot verify or work on any open recalls, that they are turnung customers away.

Cyril,
My name is Jeff Zee and I am the General Manager here at Kia of Milford.  I would like to first apologize that no one has reached out to you regarding this review, until now.  I would also like to apologize for the mistreatment you and your wife had to endure during your most recent visit.  I am completely appalled at the lack of professionalism our staff portrayed and lack of proper communication.  Today, our staff is filled with the upmost respectful people, both sales and service.  They are all extremely knowledgeable about each new and old Kia, making diagnosing a car easier.  I can assure you that our staff today strives to make the serving side of things, smoothly and professionally.  I would like to learn more about you experience and see what I can personally do.  My email address is: [email protected].

I bought a sportage at Gold Star Kia in Groton. A day or 2 after pulling it out of the showroom the locks and lights wouldn't work. So I took it back and they did fix it. Not that big of a deal for that one. A few months later the "blower motor" was shot. I took it in and they fixed that and charged me 500 for it. Nothing is covered under their "warranty" whether they do the work or not or whether you have their 30,000 and 50,000 mile check-ups. They charge huge amounts during these check ups for things that I felt were not in need of repair. I paid alot of money for this piece of crap and when i drove it off the lot that day it was only worth 6 grand instead of the 16,000 I paid for it. Being a woman some of us don't know these things and the sales person was not honest esp. when it came to the point of when my car was stolen and according to the salesman it was equipted with lowjack. which the police and security company said the car was not. Last year i felt something was wrong with the transmition so i did take it to a kia(2 weeks later-no loaner car) dealership and they "fixed it" when i drove off i still felt something was wrong and mentioned it to the guy but i couldnt be without a car for another month or so...and a few days later the transmition went. Because I was out of state i could not take it back to the original dealer it was just at it was towed to another place which will not honor the warranty or the extended i had paid for as they have no record of me ever taking my car and having the checkups, 2 blower motor replaces and free oil changes and all the other work i had done to the thing even though the dealer who did the tranny work called them and told them what happened. A year ago I called Gold Star Kia asking them for help. Gold Star doesn't exsist anymore..the service man at this place told me Kia closed the original place down because of their shotty practices and that I wasn't the only woman that was dupped by this place actually there were 7 of us. So now it will be a year in Jan. my kia sits in a kia dealer in mass(which also is not a kia dealership anymore) waiting for me to come up with big bucks to pay for a new tranny. they have offered to let me trade it in to get another...but why the hell would i give another cent or drive around and advertise a car for a company that cares nothing about their consumers and does not stand by their warranty? Also the clutch, rotors etc. didnt last either the car only to this day has 70,000 miles on it.I bought it in 2001 and its a 2001 Strangely enough i have recently recieved several letters asking that I trade my kia in immediately for another car...so whats up with that? is there a recall coming or are they about to get busted for their seedy practices and piece of s**t cars? I feel its not so much the dealerships in general its kia itself that teaches them and makes them screw people. I know that the guy at the dealership felt for me by the look on his face.

The car is SEVEN years old!

How can you possibly complain about $1100 repair on a 7 year old car? Did you pay the same as you would have for a 2005 model? If not, then you got what you paid for, and frankly I didn't know you could even get a flat tire repaired in CT for a grand. Given the age of the car, and the location, I think you got off fairly cheaply.
