I would strongly suggest that if you are thinking of buying a puppy from Missy @ Kinni River Springers, I would look up the definition of a "puppy mill" first. This is the definition via the ASPCA: A puppy mill is a large-scale commercial dog breeding operation that places profit over the well-being of its dogs—who are often severely neglected—and acts without regard to responsible breeding practices.

I have never dealt with a breeder as rude as Missy was. She was very friendly until she received our down payment. Then she turned quite rude, and was put off by phone calls. She is a pro at screening calls too, so don't expect her to answer you or return your call. Once we submitted our down payment, she emailed the contract. Be wary, and make sure you comb through the "CONTRACT" that she supplies you. She has all her bases covered so you can not even speak to her on a human level. She immediately becomes defensive and tells you to read your paperwork. We love our puppy, but we wound up with a pup that came with no shot records, or AKC papers. She blamed that on the airline she shipped the pup through. Apparently, she doesn't bother registering her litters either unless you pay extra for the papers. I wouldn't have had a problem with this, and offered to pay the AKC fee. She wanted to charge me for the entire litter since no other purchaser requested them. Unbelievable! This allows her to continually breed her dogs without their being any record of how much they over breed their poor dogs. When the dogs have outlived their usefulness to her, she sells them. I would NEVER recommend this breeder to anyone.

I used to raise Springers, but only allowed my female to have 2 litters. We also did not breed her on her very next heat cycle after she whelped. When I sold our puppies, interviews with the potential families were required. We actually became friends with all the pups owners, an still have friendships with many of them today. Once we were sure our pups were going to a good home, they were sent with a folder that included the pups shot records, AKC papers, photos of the pup from birth to 8 weeks, a blanket, bandanna, and a toy. I don't expect every breeder to handle their pups the same way, but I do expect a little compassion toward the animals & the people that purchase their pups. I would NEVER recommend this breeder to anyone.

The original complaint was made in 2015 and I purchased a puppy from Kinni River Springer's in 2017. I don't know what went wrong with the purchase from the person who originally filed the report but my experience was very different. I was able to correspond with Missy through email and she was always quick to answer any questions. There was a problem with my email account sending the signed contract back to her and she allowed me to bring it with me when I came to pick up my puppy. I picked my puppy up at 8 wks. I was given enough puppy food to help me transition him over to the food I was using (she was using IAMS and I switched to Taste of the Wild). I was given all the paper work for his shots (My vet was very happy with what I was able to provide). I also received paper work to register my puppy although I didn't do it. If I had wanted to visit earlier or to see the Kennels before the purchase I was given every opportunity to do so; I only needed to arrange this before hand since this is a private residence. When I arrived to pick up my puppy the kennel was beautiful; inside and out. There was still another puppy waiting for his family and they were both healthy and beautiful.

Today marks my puppies first birthday (3/29/17). He came from the last litter that Storm had. He is so awesome! When I brought him home he immediately started playing with my other Springer who was 2 1/2 yrs. old at the time - they became quick friends and are still best buds. He has the best temperament - not something I would expect from a female that was "overbred". Nope, my puppy is amazing! He is great with people and other dogs, cats, etc. And there has been no health issues either. I am hoping to get another puppy in the next few years and am planning on going back to Kinni River Springers (a female this time which is was what I wanted before I got my male puppy; not enough females in the litter). And yes Missy offered me the option to pick a female from another litter but I saw something in the one male puppy that I ended up purchasing. I'm not sure why the original complaint had an issue with selling the dogs that are retiring. Before I made my purchase I looked at lots of other kennels and they seemed to all follow this same practice. In all honesty I would be a little concerned about someone keeping all them after they retired (animal hording comes to mind but that's just me).

I also want to mention that before I bought my puppy I watched this kennel as well as some others for over 2+ years via websites. I never saw anything that would make me think "puppy mill". In the time that I watched, the females and males changed indicating that they were retiring and new females and males were being used. In the end I chose Kinni River over the others because of the blood line - Her dogs seem to have a stocky build, medium to large (between 40 and 50 lbs.) and have amazing coloring. I would highly recommend Kinni River Kennels if you are looking for an amazing Springer puppy. And did I mention that they are so beautiful...

The proof is in her rebuttal.

It is so easy to see the type of person /breeder this lady is. I have nothing more to say. She says it all on her own.

Not once in the complaint this lady has left have I heard she is unhappy with her pup!! The fact that I shipped a pup that is 7weeks old is a lie!!  The vet fills out the health cert with the dob and that is needed to fly and they WILL NOT take under 8 weeks old. Its sad that people can bash others on these forums with no real reason other then she thought I was rude. You can read the website and contract if you didnt agree then why would you buy the pup? I dont hide anything its all on there before you do the deposit. If you thought I had to many dogs again move onto another breeder Im honset with all my dogs listed and info right there for you to review. So any other breeders out there watch out for this lady if you sell her a puppy no matter what you do isnt good enough and this what you have to look forward to. Its sad!! So unless you have an issue with your puppy leave me alone ....no shot record because it fell off in flight but that info was emailed to you, no papers you didnt purchase them which is also on the website and contract, I'm rude well yes I maybe now  Im getting tired of you saying false things about me that make no sense. This is a slander case waiting to happen. I have posted all my proof to where you call me a puppy mill so included my inspection report that states the number of dogs and an A+ rating on conditions of dogs and kennel. So where is your proof to your complaints? crazy Lady leave me alone...most families know to read before they buy and if they dont agree then you dont buy learn to do this because its not my fault you didnt read everything and then blame me for it the contract/rules are the same for everyone so READ.

Emails

I wish I could show all the email interaction I had with this breeder. It would clearly show the type of establishment she has, and how she runs it. Perhaps a few less baby makers would give her more time to give quality customer service to her pups forever homes, and keep up with her childrens activities. I have also talked with several people that have purchased pups from her, and their experiences were the same. Kinni River Springers used to have a Facebook page, but they took it down when several people gave them negative reviews. I filed this complaint after seeing a new crop of dogs to breed, and their heat cycles posted so you can put a downpament on a "potential" pup. I paid $1000 for a pup that came to me without ANY information that would assure me that I was getting a purebred Springer. In fact, our Vet thought she was part Beagle. If you can't interact in a friendly manner with a breeder, walk away. We were just coming through the loss of one of our beloved 12 year old Springers, and obviously our grief made us easy targets to be taken advantage of. All we wanted was a healthy, AKC registered puppy that had loving care prior to our ownership. I do feel the price we paid warranted at least that much. Lastly, don't accept a pup younger than 8 weeks of age. Our pup arrived at 7 weeks. They do not have the chance to learn from litter play about aggression & dominating behaviors. If Missy would have just provided us with her AKC papers, we could forgive the rest; however, we will not forget how we were treated by Kinni River Springers.

I was notified by email that this complaint was filed. Iam not sure the reason the person felt the need to do so after reading it I come up with the shot record was lost in flight??  I have never received any phone messages from this person only a email stating there was no shot record when they picked up the puppy from the airpiort. I have shipped pups for many years and never had any issues with taping the food and shot record to the top of the crate. If it was lost in flight im sorry but have no control of that. I did email back the dates/ages of the deworming and the age and shot info as soon as she emailed me. She states how she shipped pups when she raised pups.... Well mine get a blanket, rawhide and a toy at shipping so Im not sure what more I could include to make it more comfrtable for the puppy. She also states about the AKC papers I sell 99% of my pups with a spay/neuter contract and from years of doing this now know most families do not care about the papers since they are fixed and not breeding them. So instead of wasting money on the litter forms to just sit in a folder I dont order then unless requested and I do ask that fee(the puppy/processing fee that akc requires). This info is all on the website and contract so if that was not acceptable I would have went to another breeder. I record all litters with AKC and state. All pups are vet checked the week they leave and issued a cvi (certified vet inspection report) which is sent home with every family and the vet sends a copy to the state. So EVERY litter is recorded. This is state law! Since this pup was shipped it had the flight health cert otherwise it would not have been allowed to fly. Im inspected every 18 month with AKC & State of WI and all regulations must be followed or you will not get your license at that point and will be required to fix issues. I have the 20 page report and not 1 issue. I will gladly email it to anyone that requests it. Im not sure if the word "puppy mill" was just thrown in there because its clear to me she is unclear what that means. We have 10 breeding adults and our dogs are loved and well cared for as the reports show and satisfied customers report back. She stated the puppy they love and was healthy so again unclear why we are being accused of being a puppy mill.  Yes I do rehome our adults after they retire from breeding at around age 5 or 6. If I did not do this I would not beable to continue to have breeding adults I would not have the room. It is the hardest part of this job since we have most since a puppy but there are just as many families out there wanting to love an adult dog and not go through that puppy stage so they are found loving homes and we keep in touch and even visit a few that are close enough to do so. So again Im confused on the complaint as to why it was done as this is the only thing I do and take pride in our dogs and puppies and want them to go to loving families. I also have 2 daughters in school so with sports, dance and horse shows Im not always avail I do state that emails are the best way of contacting me on the website and try to respond as soon as possible which I did in this situation with the shot record info.
