Complaint Review: Lakeside Marina South Carolina - Eutawville South Carolina

We found this place online.  It looked like a nice decent place to stay.   So i called there number and Jim Dunn answered the phone.    I asked him did they have anything for the dates i inquired about for our vacation.   He said he had spot on the lake, staying in a nice 30ft RV.   I asked how much and we negoitated a price of 800 hundred dolllars for our stay. Our reservation was set.  We were ready for a great vacation.

When we arrived there, we went into the office and notified them of our arrival.   To our surprise, they had no reservation for us.   I told them i booked it with Jim the owner.  They said he doesn't do bookings or any office work.  Mind you this is the owner of the place (jim dunn).  The people in the office said he writes reservations down on post its and forgets about them, and has to much on his mind to remember such things.   So here we drove over 500 hundred miles and now no place to stay.  Kind of put us behind the eight ball.  We asked, well what do you have?  There was a elderly lady in the office and said there was their premier cabin we could have or we could upgrade to one their cottages on another part of the lake but our price would be increased if we wanted the cottage. We agreed to look the cabin, It was in the evening and late so our first impression was not a correct impression of the cabin.   So we took the cabin.  We signed there rental agreement.  Be careful here because there agreement says no refunds or early departure refunds.   Well once we got back to the cabin after panicing for 20minutes of not knowing for sure of a place to stay.   We found a trailer not a cabin.  It was a run down trailer

Many things did not work in trailer/ cabin.  Oven gas burner out,  light bulbs missing,  cabinet face under sick torn off, patio door broken (ie used a lock and padlock latch for the lock),  would not stay shut.    No pots or pans as promised, were brought after being asked.  Furniture was is horrible, horrible condition,  all the furniture should be thrown out to the trash.  floor tile missing (they covered with rug to hide it). We used our beach towels we brought with to cover the couch and chair because they were very filthy!!!!

Now to the worst thing.  Roaches and ants all over the place.  We notice they place roach traps everywhere.  Oh my, there was some huge roachs,  2-3 inchers!!!  All of our food had to be place into the refrigerator so no roaches could get into it.  We also notified Jim and his staff.  House keeper came and spray very sparingly.  What a joke the d**n place needed to have a professional exterminator. Ants were also everywhere, worst then the roaches actually, they are smaller and maybe less noticable but they were thousand fold more of them then roachs.  In the bedding, sinks, floors, furniture,  everywhere. The housekeeper told us that this was called the fishermans cabin not sure what that meant.

We couldn't get a refund as i stated before, so we decided to make the best of it.   We tried. We were to stay there for 10 days we almost made it. My wife was miserable from day one but having no choice what could we do? I had rented a small fishing boat and since it was so late in the evening I was given one hour free and the rental agreement for the next day for 4 hours paying 75.00. Unfortunately the wife gets seasick so I asked about upgrading to a larger boat the next day. One was not available but since we were not leaving until thursday I was assured we would get our time in.

They did not have to worry about it as when we woke up this morning Tuesday there was a large roach crawling down my wifes face. Needless to say we had to go RIGHT NOW! We left with the statement that this place was a roach motel.Giving up the 75.00 for the boat rental and the 2 days rental on the Trailor/cabin. I am really scared as to what the original place we were reserved for looked like if this was the premier cabin as the young sarcastic man stated in the beginning. If all the cabins were in half the shape as the actual cottages this may have been an ok place. Seems the cottages are for advertisement. If you drive from Louisville Ky you pretty well just accept and go on. I think we tried but the filth and the bugs got the best of us. Thanks Lakeside for the unforgettable and the worst vacation ever.

Just to say one positive thing the housekeeper was the ONLY person that apologised for our horrible experience. All others basically were like oops sucks to be you!
