I've had a worse experience then you, since AT&T was trying to charge me over $500 for "roaming charges" between my 2 cell phones on the same plan !!!! Yes my two cell phones on the same plan, under my name, which I used with my girlfriend as I was out of town often, and we wanted to keep in touch ! Well according to them we used these two cell phones on roaming charges, since there was no coverage in the area I was staying...... That area was New York city !!! Now you tell me if that isn't covered by a big company such as AT&T !!!! I never payed that ridicoulous bill, and I told them I was going to cancel their service. They threatened me to send me to a collection agency and ruin my credit as well on top of the early termination fees of approximately $350. I made copies of my 2 year agreement, copies of that stupid "coverage map" on their site, which clearly stated full coverage for the area I was staying, and a copy of explanation of my dispute with them with my reasoning, and I sent it to the BBB to the FTC and to the three credit bureaus. Also I sent AT&T letter stating I would pursue legal action in case they would try to extort money from me. As of today, 4 years later I haven't heard anything from them, never heard from collectors and most important never had any remark on my credit. Bottom line you need to collect all your infos on paper, and make sure you fight them back, and chances are they will back off if you are %100 sure you are right. After that change your cell phone provider, I strongly reccomend Sprint, as they are usually honest with their charges, I've had them for a while now and even my friends are satisfied with them. Don't be scared, and DON"T pay them if you were wronged, just fight back.
