Attended the Learning Annex "Real Estate Wealth Expo" in Rosemont, IL November 6. Purchased a commercial real estate "home study course" by J. Scott Scheel for 1631.00, with "money back guarantee." On examining the written materials tne next day realized it wasn't worth much and phoned Learning Annex to cancel (had paid with bank card) and was told "follow the instructions", which I did - I went immediately to the post office and mailed the notice of cancellation by certified mail, return receipt requested. Days later, no receipt of delivery. Called US postal service, and guess what?

The ONLY ADDRESS attendees were given for sending cancellation notices was considered "insufficient" - had no floor or suite number! Called Learning Annex immediately again - got nothing but voice mails and the run around! Three weeks later cannot get a written or phone answer or refund from the Learning Annex! Had to file written complaint with Attorney General, New York Better Business Bureau (who states Learning Annex has had NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS and an UNSATISFACTORY RATING!) and file an affidavit through my bank to attempt to retrieve my money. FORWARNED IS FOREARMED - CHECK YOUR BBB ON LEARNING ANNEX IN ALL STATES BEFORE DOING ANY BUSINESS WITH THEM!

I am the in-house attorney for The Learning Annex. This is the first I have heard of your complaint. Please snail-mail it to the company, and put on the envelope "Attn. Atty Andy H". We would like to resolve it. This is the first we have heard of any post office delivery problem for a Notice of Cancellation. We receive a predictable number of merchandise returns for every Expo, and the Chicago Expo was typical. The number of returns is proprietary, but rest assured it was a high enough number (over 100) that we could perceive no mail delivery problems with the Notices of Cancellation. Also, yours is the only complaint about this. If you check with the NY Better Business Bureau, they have a record of 5 complaints (we have tens of thousands of students), 1 of which is unresolved. I have contacted them to find out what the "unresolved" one is. The BBB gives an "unsatisfactory rating" if you have any (even just one) "unresolved" complaints. I find it harsh to label us no differently than a company that has 1000 unresolved complaints, but that is the BBB system! Again, please let us know who you are and let us try to resolve it.
