Complaint Review: Leeds Trade Glass - leeds LS11 5JY United Kingdom

I got a phone call from company called leeds trade glass saying there are grants avail to people who have old and inefficient windows and doors, they said it would be an app for about an hour with a look at prices and with a no obligation quote.

I was daft enough to believe it.

The guy - Gary firth - came round last night at 7.30pm, he didn't start by measuring or showing me any products he sat down and said he is a salesman and he is here to sell, but he is honest!!! and has had good day so wants to do me a good deal. He asks what I can afford and I said I didn't know as didn't know what it would cost and it was just for a quote.

He said it all comes down to cost and affordability - obviously! I gave him a ball park figure of £50 a month and said I didnt know what that would get me. He said lets start with budhet range.

He then showed my a price brochure - well it had door sizes and some figures in it. Wrote down some numbers, did stuff to thme and came out with a reasonable price fora new front door. I said it wasn't too bad. he gave me a price with new patio doors too. I agreed it was a reasonable price but hadnt wanted to buy right then with no other quotes.

He then got tesco website on his phone and showed me their prices so the price was actually ok. By this time though I needed to get my girls in bed and he had been there quite a while. I said I would think about it, he then said his price was only for tonight as he had had good day and it would then go to a 12mth quote price which was then ridiculous!

I phoned my mum to ask her advice and she agreed to get more quotes and if he had quoted a price then that price should stand. I put girls to bed and couldnt get rid of him as he kept selling saying he had done me a great deal, he then offered me the a rated top windows for the same price as c rated and called his boss to agree it - this where all the sales patter that he said he wouldnt do at the beginning started!!! He then said was I happy with A rated top spec for that price? I was but then I found out that the door handles, etter box and knocker were not inc and he quoted a ridiculous price for those, then halved it for me. I said no as it was too expensive and all the pictures show doors with gold handles/boxes and none show white which he said come as standard. Another call to the boss and he then decided he could do it for free!

He really did lay on the pressure!!

My issue was not just the amount of pressure, I do understand he is a salsesman, it was all his chat and the fact I couldnt get rid of him till nearly 11pm!!

He told me he too had 2 kids, one with an ex. He said his ex complains all the time and she should be happy that he gives her £55 a week maintenance!! This is after he told me he earns £700+ a day!!

He then told me he has 6 houses as his Granddad left him £170k and he bought property and he rents them out, I had a few stories of tennants too!

He said he had been doing windows for cash in hand but someone had reported him!

He also sells cars and buys them cheap and does them up and sells them on ebay.

He works all hours and then does his cars and stuff and doesnt really do kids!! But new wife doesnt complain much as she gets lots of money and she works 2 days a week as a nurse and she looks after the house and daughter.

Do you get the picture why it took soooooo long!!!!

The worst bit was his language thou, which I thought inappropriate in any business deal never mind in a single womans house.

He said he had offered me such a good deal that I had 'pulled down his trousers, smacked him on the a*se and raped and pillaged him' - this was his phase and he used it a few times!!

He told me how he was on great terms with the top man and had known him 10 yrs and despite being suspended a few times they had great relationship, he then showed me a text conv on his phone to prove this - I hadnt asked and certainly didnt need to know or see prooof!! In it he called the boss 'mr c*nt' and then it had the same word repeated with other stuff. He thought it was funny and made them great mates!!

I think if the company who make the booking know it is such a hard sell it is wrong to allow single women to allow them into their home in the eve with kids there and then they dont leave for over 3 hrs!!!

I hardly slept last night as it was all going thru my head and I was upset and angry.

My Mum told me this morning that when she had quotes for their patio and my Granddads they had guys who came, measured up and then went away and came back with drawings and a quote so surely there are some decent companies out there. Double glazing is such a dodgy thing thou as when I googled it and they are very secretive about prices and wont tell till they are in your house doing deals!!

Sorry its a bit long, needed a rant!!

Just want advice as to if anyone else has had bad sales experience from this 'leeds trade glass' company and if they complained?
