Do not allow Legacy Long Distance to make you a victim! Fight back to remove their fraudulent charges advance full disclosure of fees, terms and conditions so that consumers can make decisions based on accurate and complete information.

Please read the letter I wrote below. You need only write one compelling letter with a BROAD distribution (see my list at bottom of letter) including state and federal officials and agencies, the news media (they love this stuff), consumer protection groups, your credit card fraud department, the actual owners of the pay phone (this is not Legacy), the managment of the company who has the pay phone located on their business property, and of course Legacy (but don't expect anything from them).

Dear all?

Earlier this month, you were informed of my dispute with the Legacy Long Distance Company, which operates out of Cypress, CA. To recap the situation, my flight out of Philadelphia was delayed then cancelled and my cell went dead. I needed to make some essential calls from an airport pay phone. Rates on the phone indicated $1.00/per 5 minutes. There was no caution that this rate applied to coin calls only ? not credit cards. In the end I was charged nearly 15 times the implied rate for the cost of my calls. An operator was never even engaged.

I am working with most of you to either resolve the charges placed against my credit card or, more importantly, to shape policy to change this deceptive, misleading and fraudulent practice so that others do not fall victim as I did.

I encourage each of you use your authority and influence to protect consumers from Legacy Long Distance. Granted Legacy is free to charge any rate -- no matter how outrageous. But are they free to mislead and deceive consumers? Imagine that your loved ones needed to make an emergency call today, wouldn't you want them to be appropriately informed? Consider it from that perspective for just a moment!

To Philadelphia channels 3, 6 & 10, again, I encourage you to do a segment on this fraud. I am an advertising/PR professional and have already assembled a compelling body of evidence and will gladly build a high-interest story for your viewers (no charge from me).

To the various state and federal commissions, please use your authority to mandate clear, upfront information to consumers before calls are connected (i.e., an early prompt on the automated voice prompt system).

To GTL (the pay phone owners at Philly Airport) and to Mr. Rick Dempsey of the Philly Airport, I thank you for your proactive involvement and concern for my situation. I also applaud your recognition that the current system is damaging and must be changed.

To Bank of America (my credit card company), thank you for your initial alert of suspicious activity on my account and your continued pursuit to resolve this matter.

To ?ripoffreport.com?, thank you for providing a mechanism for the 26 consumer complaint postings against Legacy Long Distance available on your website! Everyone should read this.

And finally, to Legacy Long Distance Company, you are a disgrace. Your organization and employees demonstrate a complete lack of professionalism and a total absence of integrity. If you intend to continue charging exorbitant rates at least have a conscience about how and what you communicate to your ?customers?.

Sincerely,

Donna
