March 13, 2005 I purchased a 1 HP Emerson Motor and had an electrician install the motor. After a few months, it started overheating. Finally, it started shutting off. Thinking this company was reputable I just figured they kept receipts. Wrong!

I wrote to a Mr. Naber's Customer Relations and explained my predicament with their pool equipment. He informed me that Leslie's pool service didn't have any receipt for my motor, but if I could find a receipt they would correct the problem.

A month ago,I found the receipt. Took the motor back to Centerville. Immediately, a young whipper snapper screams "This pump has calcium deposits. It is water damaged! That voids the warranty!" The only thing that was on that pump was some DE because DE circulates and the pump filters the pool.

When I pointed this out, they would not listen! They begrudgingly took the motor. Nabers emails me that he is going to Leslie's at Centerville to inspect the motor. So, he writes back that the motor was installed on its side and water damaged.

This motor was not water damaged nor was it installed on its side. It simply overheats and shuts off. They have the motor. I have not heard whether or not they are sending it to Emerson. I think it was rotton motor to begin with just like their company.

This motor was $70 higher than the competitor. And the competitor pointed out to me that the motor was overheating and I should return it to Leslie's Pool Service. What a RIP-OFF!

You might also try having them put your information in their computer...

One thing that might also help you is if you ask them to "put you in the computer". Leslie's system is set so they can "pull up" your name and info. and it will save your purchase history records! Then they can pull that up and re-print the receipt for you if they know what they are doing. If it is really busy in the store you might nicely ask them to do this before they ring you out because when they get really busy it is hard to do this. Hopefully nothing like this will happen again to begin with, and Leslie's will almost alway's "bite the bullet" for their customer; ESPECIALLY after a call to the corporate office! P.S.- I hope they sold you a motor cover. It's only about $13.00 and will add years of life to the motor.

The problem was taken care of.

Leslie's pool service obviously admitted their mistake. The problem was finally taken of! To lose $250 and be told their warrantly would not cover the motor was unfair to me. Someone recognized the problem and they did fix the situation to my satisfaction. I am angry because all this could and should have been avoided. I hope they treat their other customers a bit more fairly.

First off, if there WAS anything wrong with the motor, the electrician should have detected it immediately upon installation with a simple meter test before he ever left the installation site. Second, YOU YOURSELF state that the inside of the motor had diatomacious earth clearly visible inside (on)the motor face. The problem here is that whether it is d.e. or calcium IT SHOULD'NT BE THERE!! The mechanical seal that keep's the water out of the motor is obviously shot and why do you think that would happen? Two main reason's: old age OR BEING RUN DRY. That explains the "stuff" in the motor. In fact you even said yourself that after you discovered the motor overheated you simply CONTINUED to run the so-called "defective" motor until it stopped instead of contacting an electrician or Leslie's. If you contact the corporate office they may work with you because they have the end say; not the store manager.
