Rc'vd a letter telling me I had won a lotto sponsered by Wal-mart, Sears, Home Depot and Safeway. Enclosed was a check for $4250.00 for the Canadian non- resident tax, so I would not have to put out any money. The big prize was $250,000.00.

I was instructed to call a Michael Bent and recieve instructions on how to pay the tax. I was to deposit the check into my account and call him back. I did. Then I was told to send a moneygram to Mr George F. Tleski, 7841 12th Street East, New York, NY 10028. I did that to, $3400.00. When Michael called a few minutes later and asked for an additional $750.00 I sarted to get ansey about the tranaction.

When I got into my computer the next morning I found the check had not cleared and my account was being charged. I contacted Michael Bent again and he said he couldn't imagine what wnet wrong. I went to the sheriff dept and filed a complaint. The next time I called he told me not to call anymore. So now I have $3257.03 of which I do not have. I live on a fixed income and it will take 3 month to pay off the debit, that is if the bank will accept that. I"ll probably lose my house and my car, but I've learned a valuable lesson, if it soouds togood to be true it probably is!

As soon as you are contacted say that you must wait until their check clears and then will be issuing a personal check rather than a money order or something else on which you can't stop payment. That will get the guy to hang up or tell you not to call any more right there... even before they have conned you into sending real money after depositing their fraudelent check. Let's face it. No real honest lottery or raffle is going to charge you to collect your winnings. I mean, come on! Did Ed McMahon ever show up at somebody's door and demand payment before he turned over the check?
