I purchased a new Whirlpool washer and dryer on 1/10/2003 for $965.52. $50.00 of that total was for delivery. At the time of purchase Lowe's was offering free delivery by way of a $50.00 rebate mail in offer.

At the cash register I was given an extra receipt of my purchase to go along with the mail in rebate form. It was mailed the same day. As of 5/1/2003 no check has come my way. I called Whirlpool to see if they were sponsoring the rebate, and the nice lady refered me to a toll free number for Lowe's rebate center.

I spoke with someone there and gave them all the information off of my copy of the store receipt and she could not find any record of my request or the offer available at the time of purchase. She said that she would enter the information in her computer and I should be getting the rebate regardless of her lack of knowledge or access to the offer on the date of purchase. That was around the middle of March.

I feel like I was pressured by the sales person to "step up to the next model" that was about $150.00 more than the pair of machines that would have really suited my needs. I used the stupid logic of the $50.00 rebate to off set the difference in price for features on the up scale machines that my wife probably has never used and probably never will. What is their problem? Could it be Satan, or just a nation wide company Rip Off?

Don must have stock in Lowe's, or something. The minimun wage including Virginia is over $5.00 an hour unless he lives in West Virginia and is a coal miners son. The issue is the $50.00 rebate, not the fact that I may have let the sales person pursuade me into a higher dollar amount. Does Don have a wringer washing machine on his front porch and is just jealous that I can spend close to $1000.00 on a laundry pair? Lets get this back in to perspective, I only want the rebate owed to me.

First of all, Don from Virginia doesn't have a dog in this fight, and his comments are irrelevant to this situation. I have contacted the local store that I purchased the washer and dryer from, and they agreed to give me the $50.00 rebate check that I am looking for. As of now I haven't been there to collect the check, but will let you know if they are going to refund the $50.00. 5/2/2003

Or could the problem be a stupid consumer that let a $5.00 an hour salesperson talk them into buying something they really didn't want?
Put the blame where it belongs, on your back, not the salesperson.
