I too have been a victim to Lucille Roberts. I joined 3/2001 to what I thought was a "no commitment" contract. I cancelled my membership(or so I thought- why else would I destroy my membership card?) but in December of 2001 I spotted a dues withdrawl on my bank statement.

The next morning I called the customer service office. I spoke to a woman who told me I had a 2 year membership. When I explained to her that when I signed up I did so asking for a month to month membership. She replied by saying the reason my monthly dues are 26.50 was because of the 2 year contract that I'd signed. She was very nasty. I told her that there was some type of mistake because I KNOW for certain that I would not have signed up for 2 years because the gym closed too early for me. When I signed up I was on maternity leave but I knew when I went back to work which would be 3 months later I wouldn't be able to make it there.

I asked to speak to a manager. He was just as nasty! He said they have a copy of my contract and I signed up for 2 years. I asked them to fax a copy to me. They did. I signed in 2 places, the "paid in full" space and the "two year contract space." Is this even binding?

Anyway to make a long story short they told me to get out of the contract I'd have to pay them $190. To stay with the gym will cost $260. I was going to close my account and open another but I changed my mind, I thought it might be too much trouble.

I hate Lucille Roberts Corporation and they can believe they will never get another penny from me after this membership has expired!
