My husband and I took my son's 1995 pickup in to Maaco to be painted.  We specifically took it to maaco 1960 because they had a coupon on the web for 50% off.  We called for a quote as the coupon stated.  We were priced at 350.00 to 400.00.  My husband told them over the phone that the truck had a few pealing spots and rust spots.  He was then told that would be approximately 75.00 extra to sand those areas.  When we got there the next day after driving from an hour away the price went up 650.00 to over 1,000.00.  Basically we were then told the entire truck needed to be sanded.  We went ahead and paid that because we had already driven so far.  We also asked how much it would be to replace the 4x4 stickers on the back and we were told 49.00 for each side.  I priced these stickers online and the are 8.00 a piece.  Sound excessive???? We took the vehicle in on a Sat and were told it would be done in about a week.  My husband called back on Monday and asked if the truck would be ready by Fri.  We were assured it would be.  He called back again on Wed.  We needed the truck completed because my husband works 12 hour shifts and doesn't know when he will get another day off to pick up the truck.  I also took off a day from work to go get the vehicle without pay.  Friday morning we decide to call to make sure it is ready because we have such a long drive.  We were told it hadn't even been started.  We again were told that the drying process only takes about 40 to 45 min and we should be able to pick it up this afternoon.  We called again at noon to then be told it won't be ready.  When we asked for a manager, of course there is not on available.  When you call the corporate number you get a VM.  I am simply asking that a company honor what they say and stand behind their work.  Now that I have read another report on here I am worried that we won't even get a decent paint job since I believe that this Carlos person is also painting our vehicle.  We took this truck to Maaco because of the price.  The truck belongs to my 15 year old son who doesn't have a lot of money to put into it and neither do we.  We still paid a lot of money by Maaco's standards and should get decent customer service.  Not being lied to just to get us in the door.

MAaco does good work

Maaco is a production shop and does quantity work. I have had many cars painted by Maaco shops in 3 different states and have good jobs done by  them. You can get quite a decent job for the money you are paying. There will be some overspray to be cleaned up by your son. That happens at all shops.  The comment by prior poster of a door costing a $1000 to paint is ridiculous and he has no idea of what he is talking about.  The average person cannot afford a $4000 paint job and that is why we use Maaco and do a little cleanup on our own.I wish you and your son to have good luck with the  MAaco paint  job.

Decent paint job?

#3Consumer Suggestion

If you think you are getting a decent paint job for $1000, you are delusional.  If you thought you could get a whole truck painted for $300, you are even more delusional.  Repainting the whole vehicle would cost a minimum of $4000 at any reputable shop -- $1000 is what it costs to paint one door.  Seriously, you'll be happier with a can of Rustoleum from Wal-mart applied with a paintbrush than a Maaco paint job.  Those guys will get overspray everywhere, and they use the absolute cheapest paint you can find, so you can pretty much count on the paint job looking like dog crap in 6 months.
