Just read about your unfortunate problem. I've been a furniture associate at Macy's for over 15 yrs. You are correct, Bernhardt is a fine company. The problem you describe is unfortunate, but not unheard of. I have help several clients with these problems, usually with understandable, although not always happy results. You have several separate issues, which to you seem all one. The Stainsafe protection you purchased is an excellent plan and incredible value for the coverage it offers. The plan covers accidents or stains by you. If the client follows their end, (call w/in 10 days for a covered incident, know what it is), Stainsafe covers their end (clean or repair, if cannot,the item is REPLACED.) If you read most of the Stainsafe issues here, these procedures were not followed on the customer end. Stainsafe covers thousands of dollars in replacements every month. Also, if you have no reports w/in the 7 years of coverage, you receive a store credit for the amount paid for the plan. Unfortunately, this plan does not cover defects in the leather. Macy's has a blanket protection on everything for one year. If this problem had come up in 12 months, I feel sure Macy's would have exchanged your merchandise. However, I think anyone would agree, almost 3 years later, this certainly becomes a manufacturer claim. In fact, Bernhardt only has an expressed warranty of one year for material defects. I think you came out rather well. I do feel you were not treated correctly at the store level. If you had been my client, I would have directed you to the Bernhardt Rep myself and tried to follow-up to be sure you were taken care of appropriately.

Well, Bernhardt came through and replaced the leather pieces that were defective without a fight, but as far as STAINSAFE? This is a fraudulent company and hopefully the States' Attorney Generals will shut the yamikas down! Look up STAINSAFE folks, before you buy their policy or falsely believe you are covered, when in fact, all you did was hand your $$$ over to the thieves! Macy's? Macy's surprised me when they decided NOT to stand behind their product. I will NEVER (and my Wife and I alway were a loyal Macy's customer) set one foot in a Macy's or any affiliate's store. Thank you Bernhardt! I have already purchased another leather sofa of yours for one of my high end rental properties and intend to by another in two weeks for another property! We have been Berhadt customers and very satified customers for 20+ years and I highly recommend them! Jack
