Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
We purchased an X3 1.25 carat diamond ring from Macys under the 12-mo no interest plan.   In the store under the bright lights and caught up in the moment we loved the ring.   Once out in natural light we noticed multiple flaws visible to the naked eye and noticed it seemed kind of hazy in certain views/light.  But we purchased it for x amount of dollars which we thought was a an okay deal for department store quality ring.  So we are working on living with it...

About an hour or so after we left the store with the ring we received a phone call.  It was Macy's saying they had good news / bad news.  The bad news was they made a math mistake and the diamond ring was DOUBLE (no exaggeration) what we thought we paid.  The good news was they were able to get our credit extended and charged our account.  I told them I needed to think about it that double the cost over a 12 month period was not something I could do.  So they offered to change it to the 24 month plan if I paid 2 months at the 12 month plan. At this point I don't know what their plan B was if we had said no.  So I agreed.

We took the ring to a local jeweler to be resized and got more bad news.  The ring had more flaws than we initially noticed and is stongly fluorescent. The presence of strong fluorescence creates a hazy, milky, oily, or cloudy appearance.  We are told very fluorescent diamonds are valued lower than non or faintly fluorescent diamonds for obvious reasons.

Once we we armed with more information we went back to Macy's and requested an exchange for a more equitable stone OR price reduction to what we thought we agreed to pay the day of purchase OR a refund even.  We were open to an amiable solution.  All we wanted was fair value for our money.  Macy's refused an exchange or refund but offered a very small reduction.  Although we accepted the reduction it by no means was an equitable price in comparison to its quality/value.  Another point was  or as importantly was the purchase price the day we left the store.   I advised Macy's I was unhappy and would pursue other opportunities to right this.

My advise to anyone purchasing expensive jewelry  -  Do your homework.  Know that once you leave Macys store you cannot get a refund but they can change the price.  Most importantly just go to a reputable jeweler to buy expensive jewelry.  DO NOT be lured in by Macy's diamond sale!  It's a RIP OFF!
