I rented a property from a company called 'Managed by Maya' through Airbnb. Everything seemed fine until I checked in. That's when Maya, who claimed to manage the property, confronted me, saying she hadn’t received any payment and demanded that I pay her directly in cash. I explained that I had already paid through Airbnb, and obviously, I wasn’t going to pay twice.
At this point, Maya became visibly aggressive. She started yelling and threatening me. First, she threatened physical violence, telling me that if I didn’t pay, I would 'regret it.' When I refused to give in, she escalated further, threatening to call the police and falsely accuse me of trespassing and theft if I didn’t comply.
Feeling unsafe and unsure of what to do, I left the property and went straight to the police. After explaining the situation, the police confirmed that Maya’s actions were illegal, and that she had no right to demand additional payments outside of Airbnb’s platform. It became clear that Maya was running a scam, using intimidation and fraudulent claims to extort money from her guests.
It turns out, Maya has a history of doing this to tourists. She preys on visitors, especially those unfamiliar with local laws, and uses fear tactics to steal their money. She also regularly ignores rental platform policies, putting her in violation of consumer protection laws. If you are planning to visit Malaga or Marbella, stay far away from her and 'Managed by Mila,' or you risk being defrauded, threatened, or worse.
