Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I was looking to make a career change and read up about this company promising use it's network and contacts to find me a job as a hemodialysis technician even with no experience. I ponied up and paid $ 800.00 thinking it may be a good investment that I can earn back in a few months. So I took 4 sessions and was bored to death. The instructor I could barely understand, the materials were like mediocre photocopies from other books. Worst of all, when the sessions were done, we had a " fake certification " that was printed from a computer. My peers were nurses already and I felt out of place and mad that this expensive seminar is being marketed as a "credited " course that can certify you as a technician just like an EMT.

Truth is, this is a continuing ed course for nurses who want to be transferred to a different department, and not fit for a regular person outside of the healthcare profession. I believe this Moms and Pops business is false advertising and a ripoff to unsuspecting people who are unemployed !!! Then we were promised after that they would land us jobs but after the seminar and after submitting my resume to them...they failed to call back and wouldn't even talk to me. I looked for the owner, Marie Ortaliz but the secretary kept screening my calls and to no avail. I finally gave up and charged this painful lesson to experience but it left me with an $ 800.00 dollar hole in my pocket.

BEWARE OF THIS FRAUDULENT BUSINESS

I am extremely surprised with this report. First, I was just looking for the phone no.of this company to enroll when this rip off report popped up. This was highly recommended by all.my co nurses in CCU who went through her classes before....people of different races and about a dozen of them. Indeed, I agree with rebuttal no. 1. The person who made this report was totally unprepared for this because this should have been for someone who already have a background on health care or nursing care. He should not have been allowed to take it in the first place. Unless he just wanted to do it for learning purposes. As mentioned by others, you've got to have a prior background and a licence. However, I felt for the man who ponied 800 ...a rather expensive lesson erroneously enrolled in. Maybe the least The company could have done is to refund half as a compassionate courtesy. or a generous full future free enrollment . A small amount to pay for customer satisfaction. With regards to the food served, I also heard the place was clean , the food was good and generous. As for the ex worker she seemed to me really rather disgruntled and just vindictive. Just dropping a comment. Nonetheless, am still going ahead and make my enrollment inquiries.

First, Marie Ortaliz Center is not a job center. I know Marie Ortaliz, owner and president of the center, and I took some courses with her. She teaches different nursing programs and skills and does not promise job placement to any student. That's far from the person I know of her.

Having taken several courses with Marie Ortaliz such as ACLS, IV Certification, Critical Care Course, Basic EKG Interpretation Course, Marie has broadened my knowledge base along with my clinical skills to serve my patients better.

The fact that I've taken a lot of courses with her and have recommended her to other colleagues speaks to my pleasure and overall satisfaction of the quality of her teaching skills.

Apart from the courses themselves, Marie's expertise made me more enthusiastic than before, inspired largely by her own enthusiasm in imparting her own broad knowledge to the students. I would not take the courses anywhere else. The first experience I had with her gave me the confidence to pursue other programs in her school because she gives so much. She delivers her content with wisdom and simplicity that appealed not only a prepared mind but newcomers alike.

Marie Ortaliz conducts her classes in Mid-Manhattan where everything is so busy, crowded and expensive yet she offers her students the best of what she has like cookis, bananas, fresh hot bagels, freshly brewed coffee, tea and water, a convenience that not every place offers. She maintains a very conducive classroom complete with educational materials, and the place is always clean and friendly.

For someone to say that he felt cheated is a complete lie. I have gained so much more than expected through coursework with Marie that will carry me through my nursing career and benefit those in my care to the utmost. I say, and in behalf of my other classmates and colleagues, that Marie continues with her broad knowledge base, wisdom and expertise to motivate and inspire those who seek her courses.

Marie Ortaliz Center, Inc. paved the way to where I am toay.  I cannot be more thankful for the experience, as a former employee, and a student of two of their courses (Hemodialysis & 12 Lead EKG).  I worked with the company for 3 years, since 1999 to 2002.  Personally, I was the one responsible for making copies of compiled educational materials for each class which were approved by AACN and The American Heart Association.  These legal and supported study guides were simplified from complex books by Marie Ortaliz, herself.  The Broadway location in New York City, as I understood, came after a long debate of accessibility and convenience for students.  Thus, the strategic placement of the business justified the marked-up value of each course offered.

MOCI promises no job placement to anyone.  I finished and received my CERTIFICATIONS there and was on my own afterwards.  To avail of greener pastures, I left the company in gracious and peaceful terms.  The knowledge I gained has exceeded my expectations of a more successful career.  As a hospital lab technician, I am presently employed in a prestigious university-based health care facility that provides biomedical research, education, and acute-care services.

I hereby disagree to the judgments posted.  They are merely baseless facts of anger and frustration.  Counteractions of these negative feedbacks reflect the ruthless nature of libel.  These false allegations to me, have in score, diverted the attention of a good, authentic, and crdible educational institution.  Respect with my work and most of all the management team namely Mr. and Mrs. Ortaliz, has driven me to prolong my services with their company.  Testimonials of content and value are meant to be heard.  Therefore, I strongly adhere to insights of experience more than one's impression alone.

I am so happy to have taken nursing certification courses at Marie Ortaliz Center. I gained more knowledge and skills that have rounded my nursing education.
In the near future that you may want or need to take any certification course, I strongly recommend Marie Ortaliz Center which have been training so many nurses from all hospitals in New York. All of us nurses, new or experienced who have taken courses from her school, passionately agree that Marie Ortaliz is the best instructor to get your certificate of training on so many nursing courses and programs. I'm glad that I took BCLS, ACLS, PALS, Critical Care Course, EKG Basics, EKG Interpretation and IV Therapy from her. As a new nurse, I am being hired by a large hospital in New York. I told Marie that she has been an inspiration for me to study hard and do well in my job as a nurse. She is an excellent teacher. She inspires a lot of her students. In almost every hospital in New York, her name rings a bell of admiration and respect. A lot, if not all, of her students from New York and New Jersey agree that she does a good job sharing her knowledge and skills to everyone. Her school is not a job agency but a learning center for nurses who want to better their nursing / health knowledge and skills.

I have worked in this company for 4 years and have great respect for the management and faculty of the company. Everyone I have dealt with were very professional people, demonstrating collaboration and support to employees and customers. Our customer have expressed satisfaction for the services they have received and return every two years for recertification. The company provides "fresh bagels" every morning, purchased from the Crown Deli, a store nearby. To my knowledge the place is "SUPER CLEAN". The owner is a professional and highly dedicated to her practice.

#8UPDATE EX-employee responds

I would know what would go on behind the scenes since I use to work for the place for a little while. They had a person working there of their race (Phillipino) and decided to hire me ( hispanic) because there beloved receptionist was having a baby. They gave me the job and then decided to hire another woman because they felt she was better qualified because she had a BA degree and I didn't. All of this after they already told me I had the job. So basically.. I had to compete for this position with someone else for about 2 weeks. After being taunted by the competitor, I reported her and then I was the one hired. I constantly asked for feedback since I knew that I had a lot to learn. During my evaluation, which I still have the copy of, I was told to only make some minor improvements and considering the short amount of time with the company , I was making progress. I would say about 2 weeks after a decent evaluation, I was undergoing some personal issues with my living conditions and decided to share that with my boss ( the President of the company). She then used that against me and said that since I was going thhrough so much at home, that I was to no longer work there. When I had a meeting with her and her husband, they then decided to say that I wasn't doing the job at the pace that they expected me to do. If that were the case, why didn't they tell me this during the evaluation process??? They expected me to go at the pace of their previous receptionist who was there for 2 yrs meanwhile I was only there for 2 months.. U can't compare. Well.. it gets worse... I left on a peaceful note but as they loved to do .. decided to spread false statements about me to their security in the front of the building saying that they didn't want me to come up to the company because they felt like I would distroy the place. I was too upset with them about this. Its funny that all of this happened after they saw me making small talk with an african american employee of the building,... they had the nerve to pull me to the side and say that they know the they are not my parents but they felt it was in my best interest to not talk to him because he starts trouble. I asked them how does he start trouble and said that he just looks like the type to start trouble. I took it like they said that only because he was black. Since they saw me talking to him, my job went downhill. Now to get to the place.. I was surprised that people would actually spend their hard earned money on a roach infested place. They would serve bagels every single day and roaches would just play in it while people sat in the seminar. NASTY! .. There would be times where I would be at the desk and I would have to smash roaches on the desk and phones. Ewww. They would talk in their dialect which I thought was extremely rude and at times I was left alone while they went shopping, The president of the company would always flaunt her wealth and express how much she was making from the company. I believe that deep down she knew that she was over charging these people for a photocopied book so they could save money and was laughing on the inside because she knew she was getting away with it. Meanwhile I thought that this was a great place to work but these are some extremely judgemental people who appear to be racist. Now there is no doubt in my mind that the seminars were not successful.. because a lot of people gave praise on the classes.. but to spend 800-900 dollars towards a place who serves bagels in a roach infested place? I don't think its worth the money! U should go to another place that is worth your hard earned money!

I can certainly understand when someone feels cheated out of something that they can be extremely negative in their assessment of the issue. But the comment made that all of his peers were "already nurses" was telling. That is, if everyone else in the class was already a nurse, that meant that this course was geared towards licensed professionals with a solid grasp in the material being discussed (note the "bored for four days" comment). The is no way that anyone can ever hope to teach the basics of dialysis in such a limited time frame unless the student already had such a clinical grounding. Further, such courses will allow for other allied health personnel to attend but only to expand their understanding of what dialysis entails; not to become dialysis technicians. And "Certificates of Completion" are just that, a signed note by the instructor that you successfully sat through and attended a seminar; none of these things are ever granted as licenses (which can only be granted by the state you're in). Thus, I find the complaint that the course was marketed as a way to become a brand new hemodialysis technician with no previous experience a bit of a stretch, as these programs generally take between 3-6 months of intensive training. I don't know what was promised in four days, but I would suspect that this was more of a misunderstanding regarding what was being sold rather than outright fraud. That is, the buyer probably didn't know enough about what he was paying for, to realize it was something that he didn't need. I too, am a clinical professional, and had taken classes there without problem or incident. I found their personnel knowledgeable in their areas of presentation, professional in their demeanor, and above all, courteous to a fault. Ralph
