Complaint Review: Mario Johnson dba as Roofing/Paving Co in Houston TX - Houston TX

I found what I thought to be a "Trusted Home Pro” thru Porch.com. However, in the end I was scammed and paid money to one of their ”trusted home pros” to fix the leak in my roof after Hurricane Harvey in Houston, TX. Please do not use Roofing and Paving 24/7 for anything and do not give the owner Mario Johnson any money to do anything in your home.

He will tell you how he can get the job done and will give you a warranty so if anything thing else happens in the next 10 years that he will fix it under his warranty. The only thing he is good at is scamming people for money. And apparently he likes taking money from senior citizens and disabled people.

After Hurricane Harvey came thru I had leaking on my tile roof which damaged my laundry room, my kitchen and my big bathroom. I was scammed and gave money to another contractor that took my money, says he did work which I never saw and then had personal problems and did not contact me timely when my roof was still leaking so I tried to find another contractor to fix my roof.

I have Allstate insurance and they turned down my claim after coming to my house 5 times stating that my roof was too old and leaving me which a huge mess which to this day has not been fixed after being a homeowner with them and never having a claim in 17 years. Mario Johnson thru Porch.com contacted me, came to my house and assured me that he would get the job done correctly and that I would have a warranty so if something else happened that he would warranty his work for anything that would happen in the future for 10 years.

He kept assuring me that he would get the job done. I gave him close to $4,000 and he came out once and when it rained hard my roof kept leaking, he came out a second time and did something else and when it rained it still kept leaking. He never got the roof in my big bathroom to stop leaking and eventually one night after a very hard rain my ceiling collapsed leaving utter destruction in my bathroom.

Mr. Johnson came over again and told me that he had another game plan to fix my roof and told me that after he got it fixed that he would need to put a surface product over the entire roof and repaint my tiles. My roof looks like a Mexican tile roof however it is made of poured cement tiles and painted a Saltillo color.

The first contractor that took money and didn’t fix my roof had a new skylight installed by another company which he did not pay so they refused to come out and check the skylight and the work they had done to install it. Mario Johnson kept telling me that I needed to have the roof painted with some kind of substance and painted a Saltillo color.

He wanted another $6,000 to do this and kept badgering me for this money and kept telling me that this would work but he never got the leaks stopped in the bathroom and when he fixed the tiles in my roof over the kitchen and my laundry room the ceiling in those areas is now bulging with water because he didn’t get those leaks to stop either.

He told me that he had a foolproof way and that it would work but that he didn’t have all the money to get the supplies. He conned me into another $800 one week and the next week he conned me into another $400 and then he finally said that he needed an additional $200 dollars to get the rest of the supplies on a Friday afternoon and that the man at the roofing supply place was waiting on him to get the supplies that were needed to complete my roof.

He said that he would come over the next day which was Saturday to start working on my roof again. He never gave me a receipt for the $1400 (the $800, $400 and $200) that I gave him. He was supposed to come the next day on Saturday, then he texted me that he would be there on Sunday for sure and on Sunday he texted and said that he would be there on Monday.

He never showed up and when I called him his phone was disconnected. I waited a few days and still his phone was disconnected. On his invoice I found him home address because he said that he lived real close to me. I went for 5 days to his address but his truck was never there.

At the end of a week after repeated going to the address on his invoice I was leaving and drove down his street and made a turn and there was Mr. Johnson’s truck in another driveway. I went back the next morning on a Friday and Mr. Johnson’s truck was on the driveway and I was confronted by a man asking me who I was looking for and I told him Mario Johnson.

He said that was his brother but that he wasn’t home at the moment. His brother took my number and said he would have him call me. A few days later his brother called me and asked if he had called me. I told him no. 3 or 4 days later Mario Johnson called me and said he would be out to complete my job.

He never showed up and eventually texted me that the warranty he said he would give me on the work he had done …. That he was NOT going to warranty his work because he had been to my house too many times for him to warranty his work. I have texted him repeatedly asking for a receipt for the $1400 that I gave him but he will not text me because he thinks that I am going to call the police on him for taking my money and not doing any work.

An interesting thing was that Mr. Johnson told me how I should have the previous contractor arrested for taking my money and not fixing my room and even went as far as texting the previous contractor with my phone telling him that I was going to have charges pressed on him and then he turns around and does the same thing to me. I met one of the security officers in his subdivision said that there was another lady who used his services and gave me her number.

I spoke to Ms. Carpenter and she had a similar horror story about give him close to $3,500 for a job that he sent a worker over to house to do extensive yard work at her house. The man came a few hours for 3 days and dumped dirt in her yard and then never came back again. Ms. Carpenter took him to small claims court and went to the police but they didn’t do anything for her as he had made some attempt to do something for the money she gave him.

I just found this review from another person that Mario Johnson scammed here in Houston as well. This review is on the Porch.com website and it was dated September of 2018. TOM F. 09/02/2018 My experience: This Contractor took forever to start my job. He had every excuse in the book. He claimed to be a good Christian. I am a disabled Senior Citizen. He brought over approximately $1300.00 worth of Touch Down material and left in my garage.

His crew finally showed up for one day. Torn off my roof, and flashing and then left. I tried to contact them with no luck. The next day it rained and my ceiling in my garage fell in. I have been trying to contact them, but still no luck. I have turned it over to my Lawyer to try and get my money back. I since have had another contractor finish the job. Beware doing business with this company, or any company that has a Mario Johnson working for them.

My next move is to file charges on him for Theft by check. I will be calling the police next week if I do not get my money back. Please do not use this man to do any work at your house. He is a complete scam artist and will take your money and disappear. At the time all this was happening my roommate of 18 years was dying of cancer and passed away April 28th.

All I wanted was my roof to get fixed and Mr. Johnson did a good job of convincing me that he would get the job done. I now have $58,000 dollars of damage to my house. In the end the roof is not fixable and needs to be replaced. Mr. Johnson broke tiles on my roof walking all over it with his crew which looked like 2 guys he picked up at Home Depot as day labor. Mr. Johnson never got his hands dirty or did any of the work himself.

He ran up and down my street seeking people who needed roof repair and talked on his cell phone constantly. He even brought his young kids with him this summer while work was being done on my roof. On the day he came to my house to scam me for the $800 my friend was over and Mr. Johnson brought over a bucket of white roof repair and had my friend pour it over up there because he said that he couldn’t get up on my roof.

Mr. Mario Johnson told me that he was getting "too old to do this roof repair much longer.” My friend put the stuff up on the roof not Mr. Mario Johnson. I have since had a roofing company look at what he did and the white stuff that he had my friend pour on the top of the tiles is not even for tile roofs. It is for shingle roofs.

I have mold and mildew and rats in my big bathroom and the walls are damaged from water running down the walls not to mention that I have an 8 by 10 foot hole in my ceiling. And now all the cold air is coming in. I am in complete despair over all this. Do not use Roofing & Paving 24/7, Mario J Roofing (Discount Roofing or Mario J Roofing) or any company that has a Mario Johnson as a contractor.

While I know that the Mr. Tom F, Ms. Carpenter and I have had problems with this unscrupulous contractor taking money and not completing our jobs I am sure that the 3 of us are not the only victims of his greed. I am sure that him changing his phone number and his address to get rid of people looking for him for work that he never did and money that was paid to him.

He is just trying to hide out and stay one step above the law. However, I have a feeling that all this is going to catch up with him. This man belongs in jail for scamming people out of their hard earned money and causing more damage to people’s homes. I am publishing his home address and his current cell phone number so that if people are looking for him they will be able to find him.
