Sorry to hear about your situation. I have to wonder how frequently you travel and stay at hotels. No matter where you stay, the registration card is the key. I suggest when you travel to do the following: 1: When you make your reservation, make sure the reservation agent quotes you a rate. Confirm he rate with them by telling them the rate and get the name of the reservation agent and GET a confirmation number. At the end of the call have the agent read everything back to you. 2: When you arrive at the hotel you MUST read the registration card or folio. On that paper it will show your arrival date, departure date, and the RATE you are being charged. Have the desk clerk that checks you in CIRCLE the rate and you initial it. Once you verify that the rate as well as all the other information is correct, SIGN the registration card. This card then becomes your assurance that the rate you are being charged is what is circled on the card. If when you check in the rate is incorrect and the registration card has been pre-printed before your arrival, have the clerk make the correction (have the clerk initial the correct rate)and suggest printing the correct registration card. 3: At check out (whether it is express check out or you physically check out at the desk) review your charges. If they are not correct, you can then refer back to the registration card and the hotel will honor the rate. It does not matter what anything says in a computer. Go by what is on the registration card as this is your best piece of documentation. Good luck !

This does not sound legititmate at all, from what you are saying. I have worked in hotels as a night auditor/desk clerk and even in five star hotels-I pay cash only. Normally you pay for the room in advance on arrival. (make sure you check out the room-especially the sheets.
