Martin and Associates presented me with a high risk policy for my husband who has diabetes. When I inquired with Martin and Associates I asked them only to contact me if they had a major medical plan option. Kristen from Martin and Associates contacted me and told me she had a plan (NBLA 500) that was not classified as Major Medical but that it operated the same way as one. When I received the packet after signing up through Martin and Associates, it was the exact opposite of what we were looking for. When I called her to cancel (as she told me I could do if we found we did not like the policy), she told me that the policy IS a 70/30 plan with ADDITIONAL limited benefits that kick in after the 70% benefit, making it almost 100%. I contacted NBLA to verify what Kristen the agent had told me and NBLA said this was in no way a 70/30 plan and that it does not operate like one.  I called Kristen, told her I wanted my money back. She told me it could take up to 30 days. I filed a complaint with the BBB (they have several made against them) and they told the BBB that I have to send a written request for a refund in writing to NBLA.  That was never told to me when I signed up.   It is a shame that when consumers rely on companies to provide credible quality information about something as important as healthcare, there are companies out there that intentionally mislead you. When I did the homework on this policy, it was pretty scary.  I requested this information before I purchased it but she told me that was not necessary because I could cancel anytime and that she wanted to be sure I pay now, as to get coverage by the next enrollment date.   Be careful if you get a call from this company about the NBLA 500 plan.
