I unfortunately signed for $58/month "membership" with this place. My bad, I thought it's a month to month service NOT termed for 1 year as I have now discovered. I think during the time I signed in, I was lured and more excited about how "cheaply" I could get a 1 1/2 hour massage for only $49 + $18 and of course, they place a sign in the massage area that specifies how much is the minimum tip for the therapist... it can add up from $5 to 20% of the value of your services. That being said, my tips were from $10-$25/session.

I have not been able to come since I became physically "disabled" since January 2010 and was NOT able to visit the store, I also had replaced my credit card because I lost the one I used when I signed up in 2009... therefore, they were not able to auto debit/charge my card.

I got a letter from the Branch Manager Jim Burbach telling me that if " your account is not brought up to date in the next 20 days, we will not only have charge you late fees, but will have to take further action on your account"---I feel like I have owed them money for something I have not used.

I thought that if I won't pay, I just won't be able to use their services and since I haven't used their services in the months I haven't paid, I don't owe them anything.

Although they said I have signed a membership for 1 year, it was not clarified during the sign up that this is a non-cancellable contract and even IF I don't use it, I still have to pay. The emphasis during sign up is how much I would save everytime I come for more than 1 time/month etc. etc.

I believe that Massage Envy pry on people like me who sign up and NOT really read the fine prints and the UNFAIR  ploy of auto-debit for membership and non-cancellation policy. What if I have lost my job, lost my home etc..., I was told, I still CANNOT cancel or I have to pay the full year term even IF I won't use the massages I am suppose to get.

I thought $58/month is in exchange for 1 hour massage every month. If I don't get the massage, why should I still be paying for it?

Disability is an outclause in the contract

If you read the paperwork you signed you will see yes it is a 1yr contract with monthly payments or you can pay the whole thing up front for 12 'free' massages. However if you are in fact disabled or move out of the immediate service area your contract is null and void. If you simply provide them with an MD note stating just that they will leave you alone.
