When I signed up I was told nothing of how PERMANENT their contract would be. First, they get you in with an "introductory massage" at a low rate. They don't ask you to sign up when you come in, they wait until you've finished your massage and then try to bombard you with paper work and they sell you on becoming a member for "discounted" massage prices.
Second, after a couple of services I decided I wasn't truly satisfied with their calibur of LMT's they had staffed. If they are even licensed. I sent a letter to the headquarters requesting that my membership be cancelled. Headquarters turned around and sent it to the Massage Envy that I signed up. They told me, that I wasn't able to cancel my membership unless I had a doctor's note stating that I couldn't receive any more massages. I tried desperately to get my doctor to write me such a note, but she said that she couldn't do that because there was no medical reason why I couldn't receive massages.
I tried explaining to the manager at Massage Envy that I was going through financial issues and she told me that it wasn't her problem. I have never been locked into such an unforgiving contract my whole life. There is no way around getting out of this contract with them. If their services were anything up to par I wouldn't be so angry about being in a contract with them. But, I have found no great benefits or joy from having their services.
Then, now that my membership is at a close(1 year membership) I called to confirm when it ends. The girl told me in February of 2010. Then she tells me that if I don't send in a written notice of cancellation that I would be charged month to month. This was definitely never disclosed to me at initial sign up. If I never asked I would have been continualy charged. I was never made aware of this.
Their practices should truly be investigated.
