On 11/23/12, I purchased a McAfee Internet Security 2013 software kit on sale at Sam's Club from $49.99 marked down to $9.99 for the sale. I was in no hurry to install it as I already had McAfee 2012 installed on my laptop which did not expire until 02/01/13. I simply removed it from the bag, placed it on my desk and on or about 1/28/13, I decided to install it. I got to the product registration page which instructed me to enter my security code (highlighted) to which I clicked and saw that it was all the letters and numerals associated with the UPC symbol. It stated to enter all 25 characters; but herein is where the problem lay...it had but 24 letters and numerals and would not take it. I emailed McAfee customer service and got a reply 3 days later stating that I must have bought the product from an unauthorized dealer and that it was surely a "knock off"/ imitation. I then called the manager of the local Sam's Club where I originally purchased the product and talked to the store manager who assured me that Sam's Club would never tarnish its good name by buying a freighter ship load of counterfeit merchandise. Thereby prompting another email to that affect clarifying what Sam's Club/Walmart's policy is. Which prompted another response from McAfee Customer Service which stated for me to email them the receipt. As I have no scanner and had lost the receipt, I emailed them back to ask if they would accept a fax? I was told yes, but I had to reference these emails with a special reference number that they supplied to me. I called Sam's Club and told them my problem and informed them that I paid for it with a Sam's Club credit card. I was told to come in with my card and my I.D. and that they could print me another receipt. I emailed McAfee that I was about to fax the receipt to be on the look out for it and that it contained all the supplied reference numbers. No reply from McAfee after one week. I then emailed McAfee Customer Service again with this info and they replied for me to do it again that evidently the fax was lost...that when I lost it and let it be known in no uncertain terms that I was fed up with this yo-yo of emails and their incompetency. After a day or two to calm down...I emailed the McAfee  Customer Service Rep that I had been dealing with and asked him if I could simply email him the 24 digits that appear on the UPC symbol of the package and he could verify for me if it was indeed a special package made specifically for Walmart/Sam's Club. I was told "NO" that I had to re-fax the receipt including all the reference numbers and that is all that could be done. I returned the email to him stating "NO", I will file a complaint with the BBB on McAfee Security, and go to every internet complaint site that I could find and complain about this, and I possibly will pay the $75 fee for a local small claims court against McAfee Security as I know that they will not send a representative to my home town to represent them in court, thereby the judge will swear out a bench warrant for McAfee Security...resulting with any traffic stop of anyone showing a McAfee I.D. or business card could possibly be arrested and charged with an outstanding bench warrant for failure to appear.

Last time I got pulled over, the cop asked me for license, registration and McAfee ID.  Hahaha!

If you think any of the above could actually ever happen, you are delusional.

Just for fun, I'll give you a hint about your small claim :  Who did you purchase the software from?

"  As I have no scanner and had lost the receipt, I emailed them back to ask if they would accept a fax?  "

People still use fax machines?   You don't need a scanner to send an image (they went out with fax machines).   Any sort of digital camera will do.   Snap it, send it.
